Quaint German restaurant & bar offering classic dishes, lots of draft beers & occasional live music.

Good for those who drink, it’s a great place to have a beer. I don’t drink, but the service was excellent. I noticed the waiter seemed a little upset that my friend and I didn’t drink alcohol. We had dinner, and I can say the food is formally German. I have some of the highest-rated German restaurants on my resume. I can say that Parabara is passable, but as a truly typically German restaurant, it deserves a visit. However, it does its job admirably. I won’t give it a harsh review, especially since I’m comparing it to excellent quality German restaurants both here and abroad, but it’s worth a visit. Because it’s the only one in the area.

Great beer list with good food. After A Spaten lager which was great when paired with the soft pretzel with delicious cheese sauce. I had the sauerbraten, tender and tangy tri tip, served with pickled red cabbage and spatzel (noodles). The sauerbraten and cabbage were delicious and a big serving. The room felt like we were in Germany and the bar area had good energy. There is also a nice outdoor seating area.
Service was good. They jav a small parking lot on the side of the restaurant.

Feels like Germany! The food is consistently good. I love the vegetarian dishes and the German salad, which is basically a variety of pickled veggies. I especially like the pickled beets. We had everything from schnitzel to sausages and everything was delicious. If you are craving good German food, this hits!

We come to Speisekammer every year in December! Despite the comments from another reviewer, they have traditional Christmas decorations up, gluhwein, and other Christmas specials posted on sign boards and on their walls. The food has remained consistently good and is a favorite of my mother’s.

Still the best German dining in the East Bay. When the weather permits we are able to sit outside. On this occasion we ordered the pork tenderloin special, which was excellent, and the sauerbraten dinner. Always a nice place to go on a great day in Alameda…

My family and I decided to come here for my Birthday and we were NOT disappointed!!! The staff was very friendly and attentive, the food……WOW, the food was GREAT!!!! We got the SauerBraten, now the Spatzle by itself was alittle bland, but noting a little Tabasco or wine sauce couldn’t take care of. The portions were BIG. The potato salad was also very good. As for Desert, the Apple Strudel was AMAZING!!! This was my 1st time there, but it will not be my last!

Loved this place! Great service and excellent food and large drink selection. We came on the weekend and tried the Pretzel dumplings and Reuben dog. The food was fantastic! They also have a lot of classic German dishes in addition to the more fusion style foods. For dessert, I got the coffee creme brulee. One of the best desserts I’ve ever had! Definitely worth a visit.

A lovely German-themed restaurant with the laid-back attitude of California. All of the massive beer steins and stag heads you’d expect in Munich with an airy, outdoor feel.
Tried the chicken schnitzel sandwich. Similar to wienerschnitzel, but with chicken instead of pork. Too much roll for too little chicken, but I also understand how German schnitzel is traditionally made. Came with “German fries,” which were seasoned shoestring fries. Quite good, actually. Tried the spezi–a mixture of Pepsi and orange soda. Wasn’t bad, but came with only one refill for $4.
Service was OK. Not bad, but not spectacular. Our needs were acknowledged and seen to. We were perfectly happy with it. A very positive recommendation overall!

Friendly, personable server, thank you Fernando!
Bavarian inspired ambience with your choice of indoor or outdoor dining. We chose outdoor.
Mr. Wonderful enjoyed the Frikadellen with Spatzle. Very, very good! His meal came with a refreshing carrot salad. I had the potato pancakes which were unique.

Unfortunately this place has lost its shine. We used to come here, but I think the owners must have retired and left this place with second or third generation. They have decent German food, but certainly not great. The beer on tap was way too warm, even for European beer. Their tap system has problems.
Not impressed. There are better options in San Francisco.
