The Speakeasy at the Spa in Porter, Indiana, has an intriguing past! It was originally a 1920s speakeasy that was frequented by none other than Al Capone.

The service was fast and friendly. Pizza was amazing, the crust was buttery and flakey. Plenty of toppings. The calamari appetizer was crispy and cooked perfectly. It was a cozy atmosphere with dim lights, music and a fireplace. Perfect date night.

Stopped in to have a deep dish Pizzia at the bar, I was surprised they were open as the road is closed at the Hwy 20 sign. I have been here several times before, always choosing the thin crust pizza it’s worth the trip to Indiana Dunes. I used to drive all the way to Chicago for Pizzeria Uno’s and Pizzeria Due’s authentic deep dish but no more you can get the same Deep Dish pizza right here in Porter County. The pizza even tastes better the next day,

We ordered a Windy City cauliflower thin crust pizza and meatball sandwich, both were delicious. It was such a pleasure to enjoy perfectly cooked simple comfort meal. The beer is priced very affordable. They still keep the decor from speakeasy which makes it very special.

The deep dish pizza is amazing. The crust is so crisp with a great flavor and the roasted tomatoes on top are so good. We also got a side salad for one person, but it was big enough for two people. The house dressing was tasty. There was a lady playing cover songs on the piano right next to our table and she was very talented. Our server was very friendly.

Unexpected how nice it was inside. Wonderfully decorated. Piano entertainment was nice also. Pizza was good. Not the best I had, but I would definitely come back. Staff were nice and on the ball. Good place to bring the family. You will have to wait a while for the deep dish pizza. That was okay, the piano man entertained us while we waited.

Loved it! Pizza was so good…exactly like the original Unos in Chicago. Great stop for bikers as it’s only a block off trail. Cool Al Capone history of this place too. Bar area is dark and retro moody while the family area has amazing views with all the big windows. My tip…it takes 45 minutes for a deep dish (why get anything else) so order ahead and have it ready when you get there. Staff super friendly. I’ll be back a lot!

This restaurant rated high on Google for pizza restaurants and we saw the advertisement at the Indiana Dunes NP.
We were hoping for a great Deep Dish pizza.
Unfortunately, this was not the place for it. Not for us anyhow. The sauce was not a great pizza sauce. The lack of toppings and cheese were not what we’ve come to know as a traditional Chicago style deep dish. As a pizza it was not great.
The ladies in service were great all evening with us and other tables. The manager or whomever the lady was that came in and started boisterous talking and laughing was not needed. She may have been from the bar section adjoining.

We were seated right away and our server, Lisa, was apologetic for the fact the bartender didn’t show up. She covered that job as well as serving the food! She was calm and collected and personable despite the challenges of the no-show bartender. She made us super yummy margaritas despite not being trained. She really rose to occasion and put the customers first under a stressful situation. Lisa rocks!!

We were staying at the Spring house Inn so this was super convenient to have the restaurant attached to the end. The deep dish pizza was fantastic and the atmosphere was family-friendly. The service was a little slow, but I realize that’s only because they were shortstaffed and it was a busy holiday weekend
