We always try to support local and today we tried Spanky’s. Oh dear… This is the $10 roast beef sandwich. There is ONE slice of roast beef on the entire sandwich. ONE. Adding insult to injury, the roast beef is brown and not rare as roast beef should be. It was also tacky… the kind of tacky highly processed deli meat gets right before it turns sour- yuck. The single slice was not freshly sliced as one would expect at a deli; it was obvious is came bulk prepackaged and who knows how old it is.
The $10 meal also includes a rubber dill pickle and a light handful of broken chips. I unfortunately don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed in a “deli” sandwich. This is barely a sandwich shop and certainly not a deli.

Such a cute, fun little place. Both the sandwiches and the ice cream were great! I enjoyed the Spanky’s special on pumpernickel. My son enjoyed the Chicken Supreme. For dessert, I really enjoyed a double of Espresso and Butter Pecan. My 4 year old granddaughter loved the Black Cherry. “I love the cherries!” Very pleased! We’ll be back next time we come back down to the NC Transportation Museum!

Walked in with my husbands service dog and immediately the man told us she wasn’t allowed in there. (Her vest was on and she’s always on a leash) My husband replied, “she’s my service animal.” The man seemed annoyed. We got our ice cream and left. There’s a polite way to address service animals in public. She goes with my husband everywhere, as she should. Ironically there are plenty of bad reviews for employees with bad attitudes here. First time we were ever told to leave a place with her… we will not return.

First off, we love to support local and Spankys has always been one of our go to places since I was little. This is the second time I’ve come in the past month or so and the first time it wasn’t great but I opted to give another opportunity, sadly. For 3 daily specials of a cup (not bowl) of soup and a mini sandwich with turkey it was $50 something. I understand inflation has affected everyone but serving very mediocre food with a side of annoyed employee is not worthy of that in my opinion. We were the only people in the place, and when we walked in the two employees acted as if we had just interrupted their entire day. Not wanting to answer any questions about food choices with the specials and being extremely rude. After we paid and sat down one employee headed outside to smoke and the other sat the entire time at a table. We didn’t even want to ask for salt and pepper. It was a terrible experience for the second time and I believe I won’t come back just to be made to feel like I’m being a nuisance while spending $50 of my hard earned money. Do better Spankys and bring back that old friendly familiar if you want to stay in business.

I understand inflation and paying to be in the center of downtown but HOW is this place charging so much for average-at-best food and ice cream? I would get ice cream here often if 1 scoop (literally) wasn’t like $6. Might as well go to Cold Stone or pick up Ben&Jerrys lol. Food wise there are MANY better places around to eat for the same price point. PLUS the workers seem like they borderline hate everyone

My husband and I enjoyed our lunches there today… The food was great and the place was quite relaxing after a walk through town. When I asked the young lady a question about the town, since I live out of town, she was very helpful. We was greet and thanks for our business.

Great local place for homemade icecream. Whole family loved it. Reminded us of Helado Bon back in DR. Try the coconut chocolate chip or bday cake.

Ice cream was tasty. Espresso chip was awesome. My daughter had the Cookie Monster ice cream which had cookie dough in it and she liked it. Will be back again.

This place is a gem! We really enjoyed strolling through downtown, grabbing ice cream from Spanky’s, and stopping by the park. They offer an excellent variety of flavors, convenient parking right out front, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We loved it so much we went twice this week—once with my kids and again with my sister and her family. The ice cream was absolutely delicious, and the toppings were a fun bonus for the kids. You can enjoy indoor seating or take your treats along for a walk through the charming downtown area.

We stopped in here, while in town, for some dessert. I got a chocolate milkshake and my husband got a cheerwine float. Both were good. Worker knew just exactly how much ice cream she could fit in his float without it spilling over.
