Had a great experience at Spanish Tavern in Mountainside. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The soup was phenomenal—rich, flavorful, and the perfect way to start the meal. I also ordered the chicken paella and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and generously portioned.
The service was just as impressive. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything came out perfectly. Overall, a fantastic dining experience and definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to whenever I’m in the area. Highly recommend!

We hosted our courthouse wedding reception at Spanish Tavern on August 15, and it couldn’t have been a better experience. From start to finish, the staff went above and beyond to make the evening special. Both Isaiah and Monica were incredibly communicative throughout the planning process, always ready to answer questions and provide guidance.
On the day of our reception, the entire team was attentive, respectful, and so careful with handling food, the cake, and our guests’ needs. As a restaurant, Spanish Tavern is already outstanding — but as a reception venue, they were truly amazing. They even allowed us to come in at noon (though our event didn’t start until 7 PM) so we could set up early. They kindly let us leave some of our items there, kept everything safe, and made sure it was ready for us when the party started. That level of trust and accommodation really stood out to us.
The portions were generous (there was so much food!), and many of our guests commented on how they loved not only the flavors but also the spirit of abundance that Spanish Tavern is known for.
A special thank-you to Monica, who was exceptionally supportive. She handled table placements with honesty and care, and when my photographer tried to leave earlier than planned, she actually spoke up for me, ensuring the event was respected. That kind of personal investment is rare and meant a lot.
Spanish Tavern is also very reasonable in pricing for the level of service and quality they deliver. We’re so grateful to have celebrated here, and we look forward to both dining and booking with them again in the future. Highly recommended!

Visited this location for the second time last night for my mother’s 60th birthday. Upon arrival for a 6:00 PM dinner the tables were all open except for two others. With it being so slow on a Monday night I was expecting exceptional service especially in celebration for my mom. But, not only did our waiters not check on us after receiving our main course I had to ask for a refill beverage on different 2 occasions because it was forgotten. The icing on the cake was eating and seeing a huge roach crawl on the back wall as we were seated near the right-hand side of the dining room next to the window. We all quickly grabbed our belongings and notified the waiter it was a roach crawling on the wall and he proceeded to come and grab it with the cloth napkin from our table. He walked away and a female manager came over and asked what happened. She then went to go find the waiter who grabbed the bug after being told what happened. You would think someone would come over to apologize or the female manager would ease our minds to confirm if it was not a roach, but she then went back to the front like nothing happened and said nothing. This was so off putting and we all were ready to leave. Unfortunately we opted out of dessert and singing to my mom happy birthday because of the service and seeing a roach! I would not attend this establishment again.

It’s been 20 years since we last ate here and sorry it took so long to come back. Sangria was not too sweet..perfect! Octopus special app was exceptional! Paella was a large portion, well cooked, with a generous portion of lobster. Took half of it home. Mahi-mahi served over purple potatoe puree with asparagus was well balanced and delicious! Will definitely return to try other dishes on the menu.

Growing up in the area I’ve driven by the restaurant many times but never ate inside.
The drinks and food was top notch !
Some of the best sangria I’ve ever had and all of our entrees and apps were out of this world. Service was attentive and helpful.

We had an excellent experience thanks to Miguel. The service was outstanding—he was very attentive, cheerful, and always had a great attitude. He made sure all of our requests and special demands were met without any issues. Miguel truly went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable. Highly recommended! Ask for him!

• Paella: A bit wet for my taste; I prefer it drier, but it had good flavor. The half lobster was very fresh.
• Steak: I asked for medium rare and got it cooked perfectly. It comes with mushroom sauce (bland) and mashed potatoes (very buttery, yum).
• Flan: Disappointing; even the blueberries were dried out.
Service:
They take away your empty dishes the minute you’re done. My soup dish was taken away without asking if I was still working on it (which I was). On top of that, nobody refilled our water until we were done with the entire meal, and we had to wave someone down for a refill. Same thing for the check and the desserts menu, you have to get them, since our waiter only stopped by once to ask if we were good, and never showed up again.

We had a lovely lunch Thursday at the Spanish Tavern. I haven’t been there in several years. It seems every time I pass the sign on route 22 that says $15 power lunch. I’m on my way to that Isomewhere else. But this time, a friend of mine who says they have lunch there frequently said let’s meetago there.
We easily parked behind the building.
We arrived at 1:30 because my friend said the place was hopping between 12 and 1:15.
The ambience was just delightful. It’s so nice to have cloth napkins and a nice cloth tablecloth and lovely glassware
Without ordering it, the waiter delivered delicious hot soup and crispy hot rolls.
We ordered four different entrées. I had the filet of sole around crab meat with shrimp and my husband had the pork stew. Our dining companions had the chicken with shrimp and broiled Salmon over potatoes and spinach. I think that’s what I’m gonna have next time.
There certainly will be a next time and next time and the next time!
We were too full to have dessert, but I noticed it being served to the next table. All 10 choices on the dessert menu would’ve been fabulous (i had to photograph it) had been not so full.
