I’ve been to Spanish River Grille twice now…and somehow my second visit was even better than my first.
The first time I went, I shared a few tapas and ended the night with what instantly became one of the best desserts I’ve *ever* tasted — their olive oil cake. I’ve had plenty of olive oil cakes before, but nothing compares to this one. I’ve honestly been dreaming about it ever since.
Last night I decided to take myself on a little solo date and went back just for that experience again. There’s something so peaceful about sitting alone with your thoughts, enjoying a good meal, and letting the world quiet down for a moment. I sat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly friendly — the kind of warm, effortless hospitality that makes you feel like you’ve been coming there for years.
I ordered the Brussels sprouts and the chorizo butternut squash (both fantastic, even though I didn’t get good pictures). But the olive oil cake… that was the real reason I returned. And it did not disappoint. It hits every note perfectly — the texture, the flavor, the aroma — it’s truly an experience. I don’t know what they put in this cake, but it has me absolutely addicted. Soft, fragrant, salty-sweet perfection. Truly one of the best bites in New Smyrna.
Spanish River Grille has officially become one of those rare places that feels special every time you walk in. I’ll keep coming back — if not for the great food and great service, then definitely for that cake.

We had a lovely first visit to Spanish River Grill and were genuinely impressed by the quality of the food and relaxed atmosphere. The sangria was a perfect start—beautifully blended, not overly sweet, and packed with fresh, flavorful fruit.
We ventured out of our comfort zone and tried the bottle neck clams and tuna, both prepared in ways we hadn’t experienced before—and we ended up loving them. The calamari was also delicious and perfectly cooked; just a touch of lemon would’ve taken it over the top. But the real standout was the Gambas a la Plancha—I could’ve easily ordered two more. Absolutely divine.
The decor is charming and inviting, though the restaurant could benefit from a bit of detailed cleaning as we did notice cobwebs over a few tables. Our server was kind and welcoming, though it would’ve been helpful to have a little more guidance as first-time guests—especially regarding the menu concept and happy hour offerings.
That said, we’re experienced diners and still had a great time navigating the menu on our own. Overall, Spanish River Grill is a gem, and we’re already planning to return for another round of those incredible gambas and a pitcher of sangria.

The tapas were excellent and very fresh. They had the right combinations of sauces. We enjoyed the shishito peppers ( kind of pimientos de padrón), the mushrooms ( excellent) and patatatas bravas. The hangar steak was also done nicely. The olive oil cake was also delicious. The service was excellent! We are going back…want to try some of the Cuban flavors such as the snapper and the fried plantains. Thank you for a great dinner and ambiance!

Loved this restaurant. Located off the beaten path but we just so enjoyed our food, service, and atmosphere inside. Totally enjoyed from start to finish. Most important – these owners genuinely care about the customer experience and pay attention to Quality! The best seafood soup we have ever eaten. The homemade broth absolutely fantastic. The seafood in it, very fresh good quality! Looking forward to going back soon. We moved recently to the area and it’s been a challenge finding good quality restaurants. This is it! Can’t wait to go back.

I was looking for a special place to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I read lots of reviews before choosing the place. Well, it didn’t disappoint us. We ordered 9 tapas- wild mushrooms, patatas, calamari, baked oysters, swordfish, salads, artichokes. Everything tasted so good and fresh. Our service was superb and extremely attentive. Giordana, a bartender/mixologist, made me the best Hugo Spritz. Our birthday girl was happy with my choice. We will be definitely back. I recommend to make a reservation as it is a small place and you might miss it. The atmosphere is also quite spectacular. I enjoyed watching the team working together. Chef Henry seemed not only a great chef but an awesome manager. We need more places like these!

Fist time eating here. We had Kyle as our server. Excellent service and food. Alot of Tapas and salads. Great Spanish wine selection. You have to come and taste. You will love it.

An absolute hidden gem. Very cute outdoor patio space that’s dog friendly, and a very inviting and cozy interior. The food is absolutely amazing, the chicken a la plancha was “chefs kiss”. The pork belly tapas was amazing as well; tender, and delicious. We will definitely be coming back!

Food was Amazing!!! For starters we ordered Pan con tomato, Pork Belly, Mushrooms with Egg, Patatas Brava and Croquettas. The flavors on all were perfect if I had to choose only 1 from the list it would be hard but probably Croquettas. ENJOY
