I’ll be upfront: I wasn’t blown away by the food here.
I’ve eaten in Spain, and truthfully, Spanish cuisine has never been my favorite. For me, it often leans subtle and under-seasoned. With that in mind, I actually felt like Toma Bar stayed pretty true to its roots — which may be a plus or a minus depending on your palate.
Chorizo: This was solid. No complaints. The chorizo itself tasted good, the fry was right, and the sauce worked well. Easily my favorite bite.
Shrimp ajillo: This one fell a bit flat for me. I was hoping for more flavor.
Cod croquetas: These missed for me mainly on texture. I’m used to ham croquetas, and these were noticeably softer and a bit slimy, which threw me off both texturally and flavor-wise.
The standout:
The sangria. Everyone at the table loved it, and the pitcher price point is a steal. This alone would bring me back, especially paired with the live music.
Service was fine, the story behind the restaurant is nice, and the live music plus location make it a good stop if you’re already in the area, but it’s not a culinary “wow” moment.
This is a tricky one to rate because the food met my expectations but my expectations were already low given my general feelings about Spanish cuisine. I’ve had incredible tapas in places like Germany, and very similar experiences to this one in cities like Baltimore and Austin…so this wasn’t an outlier.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend this spot but I also wouldn’t discourage anyone. This feels like a “try it and decide for yourself” spot. If you love subtle flavors, sangria, and live music, it might hit just right.

Nice location, issues with finding parking nearby as it is a busy area. Food was delicious and flavourful, strongly recommend the Paella, both seafood and meat versions.
