Edit: Went back today just for king cake beignets, they were that good. Tried king cake White Russian, also good.
We kicked things off with the sampler platter appetizer, a fun mix of crawfish bread, hush puppies, fried onions, and mini crab cakes. It was the perfect start to the meal, and the crawfish bread in particular was so good I could’ve eaten an entire plate of just that.
For our entrée, the three of us shared the Seafood Platter, which came loaded with catfish, shrimp, stuffed crab, and fried oysters. It was more than enough to satisfy us, though I did leave wishing I had room to try more of their menu. That just means I’ll be coming back soon to sample the other dishes.
The service was attentive, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere added to the whole experience. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping at Spahr’s Seafood.
Coming from Canada, I was looking for an authentic Louisiana experience – going beyond what can be found in downtown New Orleans.
Spahr’s delivers true southern hospitality and exceptional food, for a reasonable price. The Cajun stew was hearty and absolutely delicious. The gumbo uses a classic recipe and is a true Cajun gumbo. We visited an extremely upscale restaurant in New Orleans which supposedly had the best gumbo, and it was nothing compared to this one.
All the staff are incredibly kind, polite, with old-fashioned southern manners.
I got a friendly greeting from the hostess when I entered the door but I decided to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I ended up having great service from Courtney.
Everyone was friendly and you can tell it’s a restaurant frequented by locals.
I had the fried shrimp platter with onion sticks. Both The Onion sticks and the shrimp were excellent. Both the shrimp and the onions or seasoned well lightly battered and fried perfectly.
I also tried a cup of the seafood gumbo to go and was very happy with it too.
The prices were reasonable and the quality excellent. I will be back!
we started off with the crawfish cornbread and onion strips; both were really good for taste and portion size. we then got the fish with cream sauce on top, shrimp platter and a side salad. the fish was really good and the portion size was good. the shrimp platter was small and not as good. we then got bread pudding for dessert which was also very good
overall good food and nice ambiance
I’ve been coming to Spahr’s in Des Allemands since I was a kid, and it still hits the spot every time. This visit, I had the catfish chips—crispy, golden, and just as incredible as I remembered. I paired them with one of Spahr’s signature Bloody Marys — do yourself a favor and try one!
The staff was super friendly, as always, and the vibe was exactly what you’d hope for—traditional Cajun feel, warm and welcoming with just the right amount of local charm. Whether it’s nostalgia or just great food done right, Spahr’s always feels like home and the food is always incredible.
Sautéed crab claws are excellent.
Fresh seafood. Great Po boys, fries, gumbo and sides.
The thin fried catfish is delicious. Crispy, golden and cooked perfectly.
The gumbo is flavorful and unique. Thinner than a New Orleans roux.
Shrimp remoulade is tasty and served over fried green tomatoes.
Really good Bloody Marys!
Relaxed atmosphere. Good service and very friendly folks.
You may even see a gator out back!
