We have visited this place about 3x and it has been excellent each time. We love exploring great Texas BBQ spots and this is definitely one of them.
Our favorites were the beef ribs, jalapeno cheese sausage, and brisket. We’ve also had the turkey, mac n cheese, beans and potato salad- all very tasty but our favorites mentioned are go to’s.
The location is spacious and very nice. Staff have always been very efficient and friendly. But most importantly, the food is really delicious. We’ve enjoyed eating inside and on their patio.
Definitely recommend and will return when in the area!
And FYI, reading other reviews I’d like to add:
any good BBQ restaurant is going to run out of meats occasionally so go early or be flexible…
If you think meats look disgusting then maybe you’re just not that into meats …
And prices on everything have increased especially foods. All good BBQ places are on the pricier side these days, but the quality of what you get for the price is worth it. Plus, leftovers essentially make it two days of food.

DON’T DO IT!
You can smell the green smoke/dirty smoke in the air.
Got the spub and banana pudding.
I went in to taste the brisket and automatically can taste that metallic, dirty smoke taste. Horrible. It wasn’t the spud. So tasted the sauce by itself and that had the same taste. Just awful.
Buddy gave me a pork rib to try and nope. Wasn’t having it.
Banana pudding… I mean if you mess this up just shut it down and that’s what this place should do. Shut their doors until they can figure out what’s going on. The only part that was good was the wafers that where added on top. Pudding was gritty.
Well this was a $22 review.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our lunch immensely while staying in Bastrop this past weekend.Been a while since I’ve had Southside, unfortunately moved away from this part of Texas. 5/5! Still delicious as ever, even years later! Thank y’all for a great meal.

Pretty good bbq although the sauce isn’t as flavorful as other spots I’ve been to. Line was a little slow but the atmosphere was on point with all the wild game heads on the wall. Prices are a tad high for my taste. I ordered brisket/sausage sandwich two sides and a drink it came out to 24 dollars

Love the BBQ here. It’s not often that I actually go to a BBQ restaurant since I personally cook and BBQ for myself. It is rare that I enjoy other restaurants, but this place is really good. Real friendly staff, and their lamb ribs are amazing there! Super tender and flavorful. Their pork ribs are also amazing, and the brisket is also tender, and their Jalapeño cheddar sausage is amazing! As others have mentioned, the bbq sauce is not the best, but their food really doesn’t need BBQ. The potato salad was okay, but their Mac and cheese really good. Prices are fair compared to my area, and staff really friendly. I requested a tour of their pit area, and they were so friendly to show me where they cook everything with a small tour. Really awesome, will definitely return.

Excellent! Big open driveways, not bad even in an RV or trailer. Although at really busy times it might be hard to find somewhere to park an rv, but the side road into the restaurant you can just park on the curb. Excellent travel stop.

Amazing Texas BBQ! Plus they have smoked lamb ribs that was incredible. The banana pudding was well done too. Love the long tables, great for large groups.

Great Texas Bar BQ they originated with the first market in Elgin Tx. This one in Bastrop is the same company just little nicer building. This is classic Texas style meat,beans fixins. If you go eat meat good Texas meat.The only thing they need to work on is the potato salad to dry Jalapeno Sausage rolls can be dry also. 7/18/25 upgraded my review. The peach cobbler is good, but the blackberry is better. The dinosaur rib was great flavor and moist with fat. Brisket was a little dry but good flavor. 10/10/25 Great chicken and pork ribs on this visit. The bathrooms were clean but both paper towel dishes sers empty?…

This was my first time eating here. Service was very enthusiastic and the seating was plentiful. Enjoyed the history that was all around you and the overall decor was just what you’d expect.
