How this place ever got more than one star, I will never understand. I am pretty sure that I am leaving with food poisoning from what was supposed to be ranch dressing, but had a “zing” to it like a cross between pickle and lime juice…? Professional chef said whaaaaat? The servers and staff are very nice, ….the food…not so much. Ugh. Terrible.

EDIT: Since the new owners took over, the place has taken a steady nosedive. Menu keeps getting smaller, prices going up (Chef Salad went up from $8 to $13.99). Service is deteriorating. Food is decent but the selection is slim.
Excellent down home cooking! Great meat and three, good salad bar. Service is top notch with just enough attentiveness to have a good experience. We have been several times and have never had a bad experience.

First off, I am a retired chef who’s worked in very high end restaurants for 30 years. After I retired I decided to become a Professional driver… I usually either cook my own food or eat something healthy that I keep with me. Yesterday and today I was feeling lazy and decided to try a local Mom and Pop. I was greeted with a huge smile,sat quickly and my order was just as fast being taken and brought to my table. Waitress both days were outstandingly pleasant, friendly and fast. Food was hot delicious and homemade. Desserts are made by the hostess who seats you and are outstanding! Btw… She’s a definite sweetie. I will be back to that restaurant EVERY TIME I’m in town!

we had lunch here, service was good as was the food. They also have a very good salad bar. It is an old place but many locals eat here almost every day, now I know why. I had two fried pork chops, salad and French fries, my lady had cheese burger and fries, it was all very good.

Everyone except the cashier was super friendly. Two of us ordered the grilled chicken with white barbecue sauce. The sauce was really soupy and thin. The mashed potatoes were good, but the gravy tasted burnt with another weird flavor. If you only have 30 minutes, I wouldn’t recommend going for lunch.

I have never had a problem at this restaurant. My phone always jumps to another screen when i try to post a review. The hamburger steak has always been one of my favorites. I don’t have one negative thing to say about the Southland. I gladly go there anytime that I come to Tuscaloosa.
