I honestly don’t know what some of the other reviews are talking about because my experience at Southfield Pancake House was amazing! I went on a Friday morning around 10 a.m., and it wasn’t busy at all calm, clean, and the staff was super welcoming.

I came with three other people, and we all ordered breakfast. Everyone loved their food. I ordered chocolate waffles with three pieces of fried chicken tenders and even though chocolate waffles weren’t on the menu, they actually accommodated me and made them anyway! The tenders were hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned, and they paired so well with the waffles.

I also tried the grits, which were creamy and full of flavor definitely recommend them. The bacon was alright, nothing crazy but still good, and the pancakes were absolutely delicious fluffy, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The hashbrowns tasted like the frozen kind you’d get from the store, but they were still crispy and enjoyable. The orange juice had a tangy taste that was a little off not bad, just not my favorite.

The service was really good overall. The waitress was super nice, polite, and made sure we had what we needed. The only thing was that service was a bit slow but I honestly think they were just giving us time to enjoy our food and talk, since she came to check on us every 8–10 minutes or so. It didn’t feel rude or neglectful, just a relaxed pace.

Overall, I’d 100% come back again. If you’re looking for a solid breakfast spot in Southfield with great food, fair prices, and friendly service, Southfield Pancake House is definitely worth a visit!

Believe the reviews. I leave reviews. So I usually read reviews. This time I was so hungry, I didn’t read.

Walked in on a Sunday morning/afternoon. Only 2 tables with customers and I would make the 3rd. I was immediately greeted and seated. The menu is no doubt a bit confusing. There’s like a few “combo” options then majority is a la cart items. Ok. It’s your menu so structure it so. The waitress asked me what did I want to drink. I replied a water for now. Another group of people sat next to my table. They ordered drinks (water) and received theirs immediately. Waitress took my food order. I ordered the 3 for $12 or something of that nature. Pancakes, eggs and turkey bacon. Food comes out, she asks did I want condiments, I stated yes. She asked me what did I want to drink, this time I said sweet tea. She left, never to return.

Mind you, I was the first customer in her section. Then comes 2 other gentleman whom were seated in her area (appears to be regulars) from her interactions with them. They received, drinks, food and refills. So she finally came to my table (15-20 minutes later) to ask if I needed anything. I said yeah, a TO-GO-BOX! she asked why, and I explained the horrible service.

$2 up charge for eggs
20% gratuity for parties of 3 or more. Three not 6. THREE.

Service – ZERO
Food – IDK because I threw it in the trash.
Will I return – NOPE

Dine at your own discretion.

Noticed this on the map and wanted to try it out. The place is excellent! Their grits dishes are huge portions and authentic southern cooking. The creole shrimp and grits was amazing!! Highly recommend, I’m shocked it wasn’t more busy.

First and last time – if I could give zero stars I would. My group arrived at 1:00p and placed our order at 1:30p (approximately 12 people). In addition to our group there were approximately a group of 6,a group of 3 and a 2 others – all seated after our group. Despite ordering and being seated prior to any of these people our food did not arrive until 2:45p. After about 30 mins of waiting, I had to ask for the serve who simply stated “they’re working on it” and gave no explanation why everyone else was able to receive there orders and we had not. This establishment had a limited brunch menu so nothing was complicated to complete. And there was absolutely no reason why people were served ahead of us. Worst part is that NO one took the time to give any update simply expected us to wait and watch as people come and place order and are served and we were left to wait.

To add insult to injury, when my order arrived (pictured below), the grits were lukewarm at best, the “cheese grits” (if you call it that) simply sprinkled instead of being properly cooked and incorporated into the grits, and the shrimp was diced (never seen that before). The “gravy” on the side was not in fact gravy, I don’t know what that was but would never eat that.

There are two things that will drive customers into an establishment and drive them out: service and food, and this establishment ranks at the bottom of the barrel for both.

Do not waste your time supporting this establishment.

I enjoy this place… The food is always good… And today the snicker French toast and western omelette and grits were fabulous tasting as always! The only reason why I didn’t give this place a five is because it was a bit cold inside, and the weather was only like 48°, the menu had been updated and does not offer a side with the omelette which should in my opinion, it should have some kind of potato or grits choice that comes with the price of the meal… as well as I feel there’s always room for improvement in most places. Staff was very friendly and parking is always spacious.

I requested an omlette without the bacon and stated to the server that I would get sick if I digested bacon. Long story short, I was sick all day! My omlette tasted like it was cooked in a large amount of bacon grease, my son’s chicken wrap tasted awful and the service was mediocre at best. To make matters worse, the bathroom was filthy, with feces on the outer part of the toilet and on the wall. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT! So incredibly disappointing!

I would not recommend. I had a very unfortunate visit with friends at this restaurant. After waiting more than an hour, my food was the only meal brought out. Several tables seated after us were served first. The waitress was struggling, she had to take our order twice and seemed to be the only person working on the floor.

As we sat watching everyone around us get their food, we were never given an ETA or any communication at all. We finally had to approach the woman delivering food, who told us it would be another five minutes, which it wasn’t.

I believe I ordered shrimp and grits, but I was given seafood and grits. I’ll take accountability in case I misspoke, because honestly, by the time my food arrived, I couldn’t even remember for certain. The menu stated the dish included salmon, but there was no salmon in mine.

When I brought this up to the manager, the cook or owner (it wasn’t clear which) came out very high energy, rude, and raised his voice, insisting there was salmon in my dish and that he had seen it go in, just cut up small. Sir, everything in the bowl was cut up small. The shrimp were diced into quarters, there were maybe four scallops, and apparently the salmon was sliced so microscopic you couldn’t even taste it, which is impressive for a fish with such a strong flavor profile.

Anyway, to wrap this up because I don’t want this review to be as long as our wait, out of four people, only three even got their food, and two of those orders were incorrect or missing ingredients. It was not salmon, sir. The staff provided poor service and were rude, dispassionate, and inattentive.

The man who yelled at us even blamed the waitress’s age. She couldn’t have been more than a teenager, and she clearly didn’t have the experience or support to handle that floor alone. He also tried to argue that the hour long wait was standard, even though no one told us that and other dine in customers didn’t seem to experience the same delay.

He explained the restaurant’s operational issues to us like we were the ones who set them up. Honestly, it was trifl’in. And it should be noted that another man who complained while waiting wasn’t treated nearly the same way we were.

Food was excellent. The server was friendly and kind. Quick service. Reasonably priced. I had the Apple Pie waffle and catfish. The Apple Pie waffle is a must try for anyone wanting something unique and delicious. Tastes exactly like the name. Like a grandma made it with love. The catfish was great and well seasoned. Will return.

My husband and I went to this wonderful, clean, and professional establishment both today 6/10 and yesterday 6/9. Not only does the food surpass your expectations, but the staff taking your order are both kind and attentive. There are so many food options of perfection that it is mind blowing! If you are looking for great food that meets visual presentation, and sets off the pleasure sensors in your taste buds, this is the place to go. Tell all your family and friends. This place is appropriate for business meetings, friends and family, or just because. It is rare that you find a place of this caliber. Thank you Southfield Pancake House! It truly was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

I was on assignment to take a few pictures of their dishes and I was pleasantly surprised how good this food looked. The crabcakes are awesome. The chef/owner Gregory Who lives locally and has six children, studied at Schoolcraft College under the famous Brian Polcyn. This place is clean and the service is very friendly. I really think you will be delighted to dine here. Hello there is anything you can take away from the reviews you read here is that I go to a ton of restaurants and I know quality. I also know the people that put their heart and soul into their business. Gregory is truly an amazing man.
