They don’t just sell food, they sell nostalgia, as the Yams brought me back to my grandmothers cooking. The catfish was to die for. The greens were out of this world. The sweet and hot wings cooked perfectly and the Watermelon juice toe curling.
This place, the staff, and the food deserve praise.
Definitely try this out.!
As a proud Texan with high standards for soul food, I can honestly say Southern Soul in Los Angeles is hands down top 2 of the best soul food I’ve ever had in my life and I don’t say that lightly.
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the kind of warmth and hospitality that immediately reminded me of home. But the real magic happened in the kitchen. The men who prepared my meal didn’t just cookit, they put their heart, soul, and love into every bite. You can taste it. Every forkful felt like a Sunday dinner at grandma’s house.
The fried shrimp was seasoned to perfection crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The greens were tender and full of soul, the mac and cheese was creamy and comforting, and don’t even get me started on the cornbread and yams. Whew baby! I could’ve eaten a whole tray by myself.
These gentlemen are culinary artists, and honestly, if I could pack them up and bring them back to Texas with me, I would in a heartbeat. LA is lucky to have them.
If you’re ever in Los Angeles and craving real Southern soul food that tastes like it was made by family, do yourself a favor and stop by Southern Soul. It’s not just a meal; It’s an experience. One that fed my belly and my heart.
The catfish plate was really good. The catfish was cooked perfectly. The greens had a slight sweetness to them, not bitter at all. The mac and cheese was okay.
The oxtails were the best. Flavorful, meaty, and tender. The gravy was savory, and it went really well with the black eye peas. The black eyed peas are better than the red beans. Both meals had a good balance of salt, which a lot of soul food places can be too heavy with. From now on, this is my go to soul food spot whenever i’m in L.A.
Plans changed. I ordered the lemon
Pepper wings with mac and greens, one whole chicken wing and a side of lamb chops. Food was a ten out of ten. I de boned all that chicken. Mac n cheese was perfect. Noodle texture perfect. Seasoning on greens perfect and it even came with rice. When i got my
Food the gentlemen said “see you later”. He knew he was about to change my life
