ALERT: TOP TEN ENTRY FOR MAC ‘N CHEESE NATIONWIDE. This was our 346th ‘cue stop in a journey spanning 35 states, and our 23rd in the Carolinas, where there are quite a few BBQ joints that fly under the radar because they are located in small towns well removed from the interstate. This is one of them. There is no seating inside the building, but take your meal and walk around to the back. Here you will find a truly unique picnic seating (see photos).

Excellent service and food. The bbq and all the sides are phenomenal. The BBQ is among the best I’ve had, easily top five in the state. Just make sure to get there early before they sell out!

I had the BBQ tray with Potato Salad as the side. While the Potato Salad was a little salty, the BBQ was actually pretty tasty. I can’t have flour, so I didn’t try the cornbread, but my coworker said it was sweet. I’ll probably come back and try something else it was pretty good.

Some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Perfectly smoked BBQ and Ribs. The pulled pork was not chopped beyond recognition or overly sauced, as is common from other places. The ribs were tender and meaty, with a beautiful smoke ring, and a balanced rub that enhanced the flavor of the smoky meat, not super saucy, though there is sauce available. The sides, especially the cornbread, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni & cheese, and okra & tomatoes, were all tasty, above average, and obviously freshly made. And the price is very reasonable for the size of the serving. $7-8 for a plate, including sides and a drink.

This is one of my favorite barbeque joints! We stopped here on the way from Raleigh to Wilmington, and it’s DEFINITELY worth the drive. I only have two complaints: they aren’t closer to Raleigh and they aren’t open 7 days a week! The barbeque is moist, tender and has a great smoky flavor. We will definitely stop here again.

We stopped here by accident and I will tell you we were absolutely happy with the Food, We live in goldsboro nc that has a lot of BBQ joints and this is Wayyy better than any of them. BBQ is well smoked and wasn’t all vinegar based. I am glad we stopped by. Owner was awesome also. A must place to do your next cater!!!! We will be back

Matt with South Catering/Southern Smoke BBQ catered my wedding of 150 and guests could not stop talking about how great the food was. We did not get a chance to taste test before booking, but we trusted all of the great reviews and they truly delivered! The entire meal was so delicious, especially on a hot July day! I would recommend Matt and his team for any party/wedding food needs!
