Loved this place. The decor inside was warm and friendly.
Service was a little slow but it was busy.
Food was great, very flavorful. 4 only because I didnt like the fried chicken. Way to many spices.

Bobby and I were doing our daily “where are we eating today?” search when we stumbled on a true gem, Southern Palate in Dunnellon. We were craving a home-cooked comfort meal and they did not disappoint. The fried chicken? Golden, crispy perfection. The mac-n-cheese? Cheesy, creamy heaven. Add rice & gravy, collards, and green beans, and we were in full-on Southern food bliss.
Because one round wasn’t enough, we grabbed a to-go plate of meatloaf, rice & gravy, green beans, and yams for today’s lunch goals.
They’re only open Thursday through Saturday, so plan ahead.
The service was top notch!

I had the oxtail with rice, okra with tomatoes and macand cheese. Got a piece of meatloaf for spouse and sweet potato pie and a punch. Bill was over 50 bucks. I hadnt seen prices. Oxtail, mac and cheese and the pie was amazing. Only in area short time but honestly high priced to me. Loved the food. Would go out for seafood if wanted to spend that much again. Just being honest.

The best meal I’ve had in a long time. Angie was an absolute sweetheart her warmth and hospitality instantly reminded me of home back in Alabama. She brought true Southern charm to match the rich, flavorful Southern cuisine. I can’t recommend this place enough. I’d gladly go out of my way just to come back. If you’re anywhere nearby or even considering making the trip, do it!!! It’ll be one of the best decisions you ever make!

Authentic Southern cooking. Every dish we had was seasoned tastefully.
Carrot cake was moist and delicious, peach cobbler tasted homemade as did the cake. Comfortable atmosphere, convenient parking. Must experience. Outdoor seating for the good days!

If you are looking for a good stick to your ribs down-home southern cooking made with love, you have got to go to Southern Palate in Dunnellon, Florida. It is a small quaint restaurant where when you walk in, you are welcomed like family. Only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for lunch, starting at 11 am until the food runs out. We got there around 2 p.m., and some of the sides were very limited. Hubby had the meatloaf with rice that had Oxtail gravy poured over it, heavenly. Also, he got mac and cheese and great northern beans. I had the pork loin with rice. It had the pan drippings from the pork over it. The mac cheese, yum, and tried the tomatoes and okra, first time not bad. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted fabulous. We couldn’t shovel it in fast enough.Of course, we had to try out the desserts, 4 to be exact, don’t judge. The lemon cake, the pound cake, the mixed berry pie, and the buttermilk pie. We thought we had gone to heaven with every bite. So go see Angie B to get some delicious food and stay a while for the company.

If you want REAL, AUTHENTIC, and DELICIOUS southern cooking this is the restaurant you NEED to stop by. I had the Oxtails, rice, green beans, and Mac n cheese followed by a slice of sweet potato pie and cherry pie.

Remember the scene in Ratatouille when the food critic had Remy’s cooking and he went all the way back to when he was a kid? That’s how magical this woman’s cooking is. I was sitting in my grandparent’s house, Grandma was cooking lunch, and I was listening to her radio and playing with LEGOs.

If I could rate 100 stars, I would.

Best oxtail we’ve had locally. Absolutely delicious. This place was popping, no wonder they’re not open 7 days a week, they would be swamped constantly. Loved the Pollen Punch.

My first time getting take-out here. I love southern comfort food, especially this time of year. My first visit, I choose oxtail with rice, ocra, & mac-n-cheese. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and seasoned just right. My second visit, I went with the fish, greens & yams. I can’t decide which was better. I just want to keep coming back for more. For dessert I had sweet potato pie and peach cobbler. I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Angie, she is absolutely amazing and very kind. Thank you Miss Angie for your wonderful cooking. I can’t wait to return and eat more of your delicious food. There’s plenty of parking and tables available for seating and dining in. Come on in and help support this cute little local business. I highly recommend it.
