The food was good, but the service really won me over! We ventured in here on a Saturday evening. It was just us and a larger party of about 7 in the restaurant.

We shared the 6th Ave dinner entree: fried chicken, catfish, greens, mac n cheese, jalapeño hush puppy and corn cake appetizer

Chicken was good, catfish was GREAT, greens were good – reminded me of my grandmas greens, mac and cheese was too gooey/stringy but not bad, hush puppy was okay and the corn cake was really good! I never thought to make a corn pancake, it was bomb!

I didn’t care for the mango lemonade with whipped cream. Though I did appreciate that it was high quality whipped cream and fresh fruit in the lemonade. Overall it was too sweet for me.

Service was great! Very kind and attentive server. It felt like being at a family members house.

Have you ever eaten food that takes you back into time, and want you to slap yourself, because it is so good? My experience at this restaurant. Honestly, the best food in Tacoma. We ordered catfish with collard greens, candied yams, hush puppies and fried green tomatoes with mason jar homemade tea. When I say five star it is. Not fine, but the food should be. And who would care about the setting, as it evokes a cozy feeling of being at your mom or grandma’s house, where the food is served with love and laughter.

The food- what can I say! Melt-in-your-mouth tender catfish, seasoned to perfection, that complements the flavor of the fish. The yams, sit in a delicious sweet base, and is tasted in every delicious bite. The collard greens are so delicious, with smokey flavor – but seasoned so well, your speechless after the first taste. Yes, I swear my mom was back there! The hush puppies, transported me back down South! Then let’s get to the mason jar sweet tea- shut your mouth! So good! I needed room and board after that meal. But, no – I ordered food to go, because I live in woodinville- and hour away!

Conclusion, do not go anywhere else but here, for the best food in Tacoma. Do you want to be transported back to your grandma’s cooking, then waste no time seeking anywhere else. Absolutely delicious, amazing customer service, and felt like home.

I had a great meal! I chose the vegetarian platter because I like opportunity to choose 4 sides. I chose Mac and Cheese, fried okra, red beans and rice and collard greens. I was happy to learn that the collard greens were made with turkey, which I don’t mind.

I had an Arnold Palmer with the mango lemonade. It was served in a pretty large mason jar. I was so excited to find CHUNKS of fresh mango in my drink! Our server asked me if I wanted whipped cream. I replied with a confused “no,” but later understood why he had asked me. My Dad’s strawberry lemonade came with whipped cream and after mixing in the whipped cream it was a creamy strawberry lemonade with chunks of fresh strawberries. He enjoyed it very much.

I almost forgot to mention that we got some peach cobbler to go to eat later. The to-go box contained a very generous portion and was carefully wrapped on the outside with plastic wrap which helped prevent the juices from leaking. This is a really special attention to detail. The peach cobbler was so delicious!

Excellent food, excellent service, great value. You won’t go home hungry and you’ll feel welcome and enjoy a delicious meal. Bright and upbeat with a touch of soul, the atmosphere is great for individuals, small groups and families who want a comfortable diner style sit-down or for take-home.

They fry to perfection. Not greasy, crispy light batter, moist inside and not overcooked. I really appreciate the ample amount of food for the price too. The service is super friendly, fast and very attentive to any needs you may have. When he saw that our daughter finished her amazing lemonade, he brought over a big mason jar of water for her without even having to ask.

If you live in or are visiting Tacoma, definitely swing by and get some delicious food. You won’t be disappointed.

I was skeptical about trying this place because of the mix reviews, but I’m so glad I tried this place for myself. I’ve been here a little bit over a year and always passed this place up because of the reviews but, I must say the service was so good. The food was so good to me, though the catfish strips tasted a little burnt like the grease needed to be changed. The chicken was fresh those candy yams so good but a little on the sweet side and the mac & cheese was good the corn cake and that lemonade is good. I just wish it was a little bit tart but other than that I love this place and I would definitely try it again. Only thing is it took a while to get my food because it was so busy.

Their catfish and hush puppies are better than any other I’ve tried in Washington and Louisiana. Everything is good here.

Seating is limited on Sunday afternoons and the space is tight but the service is friendly. Parking is limited and not sure a wheelchair would easily get around inside.

Pic is of 2 cat fish dinners, 1 chicken sandwich meal, plus an order of hush puppies and fried okra. $120+ total…

Ordered to go and was surprised they added both a to go fee and automatic gratuity. Really? On a to go order? $23 in fees, kinda strange. Seems like they should just raise their prices if necessary? 5 stars if not for the fees.

This restaurant makes me upset that I’ve wasted calories anywhere else. The absolute BEST southern food I’ve ever had in Washington!

We ordered catfish strips which were perfectly cooked, and the most flavorful collard greens, candied yams and Mac and cheese. The servers/employees were also so friendly and attentive.

And the cherry on top is our food came out to less than $40 for the dinner (with drinks) for my boyfriend and I.

Overall such a lovely experience, and I’m jealous of everyone who gets to live nearby this gem in Tacoma!

My husband and I were so excited to try this place but were a bit let down. We were seated right away but waited over an hour for our food. Food was good but a bit pricey. We loved how big the drinks were and the jars they were in, tasted homemade for sure. Inside is super cute.
