We shared the 6th Ave dinner entree: fried chicken, catfish, greens, mac n cheese, jalapeño hush puppy and corn cake appetizer
Chicken was good, catfish was GREAT, greens were good – reminded me of my grandmas greens, mac and cheese was too gooey/stringy but not bad, hush puppy was okay and the corn cake was really good! I never thought to make a corn pancake, it was bomb!
I didn’t care for the mango lemonade with whipped cream. Though I did appreciate that it was high quality whipped cream and fresh fruit in the lemonade. Overall it was too sweet for me.
Service was great! Very kind and attentive server. It felt like being at a family members house.
The food- what can I say! Melt-in-your-mouth tender catfish, seasoned to perfection, that complements the flavor of the fish. The yams, sit in a delicious sweet base, and is tasted in every delicious bite. The collard greens are so delicious, with smokey flavor – but seasoned so well, your speechless after the first taste. Yes, I swear my mom was back there! The hush puppies, transported me back down South! Then let’s get to the mason jar sweet tea- shut your mouth! So good! I needed room and board after that meal. But, no – I ordered food to go, because I live in woodinville- and hour away!
Conclusion, do not go anywhere else but here, for the best food in Tacoma. Do you want to be transported back to your grandma’s cooking, then waste no time seeking anywhere else. Absolutely delicious, amazing customer service, and felt like home.
I had an Arnold Palmer with the mango lemonade. It was served in a pretty large mason jar. I was so excited to find CHUNKS of fresh mango in my drink! Our server asked me if I wanted whipped cream. I replied with a confused “no,” but later understood why he had asked me. My Dad’s strawberry lemonade came with whipped cream and after mixing in the whipped cream it was a creamy strawberry lemonade with chunks of fresh strawberries. He enjoyed it very much.
I almost forgot to mention that we got some peach cobbler to go to eat later. The to-go box contained a very generous portion and was carefully wrapped on the outside with plastic wrap which helped prevent the juices from leaking. This is a really special attention to detail. The peach cobbler was so delicious!
They fry to perfection. Not greasy, crispy light batter, moist inside and not overcooked. I really appreciate the ample amount of food for the price too. The service is super friendly, fast and very attentive to any needs you may have. When he saw that our daughter finished her amazing lemonade, he brought over a big mason jar of water for her without even having to ask.
If you live in or are visiting Tacoma, definitely swing by and get some delicious food. You won’t be disappointed.
Seating is limited on Sunday afternoons and the space is tight but the service is friendly. Parking is limited and not sure a wheelchair would easily get around inside.
Pic is of 2 cat fish dinners, 1 chicken sandwich meal, plus an order of hush puppies and fried okra. $120+ total…
Ordered to go and was surprised they added both a to go fee and automatic gratuity. Really? On a to go order? $23 in fees, kinda strange. Seems like they should just raise their prices if necessary? 5 stars if not for the fees.
We ordered catfish strips which were perfectly cooked, and the most flavorful collard greens, candied yams and Mac and cheese. The servers/employees were also so friendly and attentive.
And the cherry on top is our food came out to less than $40 for the dinner (with drinks) for my boyfriend and I.
Overall such a lovely experience, and I’m jealous of everyone who gets to live nearby this gem in Tacoma!
