Alright listen up, caffeine crew — Southern Grounds & Co in Atlantic Beach, FL is the real deal ☕
I test every coffee shop by ordering my go-to: a caramel vanilla latte, and let me tell you — they nailed it. Perfectly sweet, smooth, and that extra shot had me feeling like I could wrestle a gator or at least power-wash the driveway twice as fast
The day before, I went across the street to another coffee spot that didn’t even have caramel syrup (yeah, I said it ). Needless to say, that was a sad latte experience. But Southern Grounds? They came in clutch.
First visit, I grabbed a breakfast burrito that was chef’s kiss — two sauces, one red, one green, both amazing (and yes, I forgot pics because I inhaled it). Second visit, I leveled up with a bacon and ham egg & cheese on an everything bagel, and holy smokes, it was SO good.
Between the killer coffee, awesome food, and laid-back beach vibes, this place has officially earned a spot in my caffeine hall of fame ☕️ I’d happily move in if they’d let me.
What I don’t understand is… If you’re offering breakfast all day long, you should be making the grits in batches, and not just one time in the morning. Then the people that want breakfast in the afternoon either have to settle for stale grits, or have the only other option…fruit. The fruit was fresh and delicious, even though my first choice would have been the grits.
When I arrived home a few minutes later, I opened up my meal to find it pretty cold. I had to nuke it in the microwave. I also felt disappointed that the omlette was not stuffed for the price I paid for it. It was quite flat. I expect that a $16 omlette should have more ingredients. There were a few bits of bacon, some cheese, and topped with avocado that had turned black around the edges. The cheese was dry. Usually I expect cheese to be a little gooey in an omlette. The flavor was fine, but it was not a $16 omlette.
I also ordered one pancake for $2. The pancake was big, but not sure it was worth $2. However, the pancake did taste pretty good. The fruit was the best part of the meal. They were very fresh, and nice and plump.
The other issue was when I placed the order, I was told that they would bring it out to me. I happened to be sitting by a table when the kitchen help mentioned that my order was ready. A tall slender server was there when they placed my order on the counter. I waited for several minutes thinking she would bring it to me, after she delivered a drink to another table. All she did was look at her phone.
I decided to ask if I could get my order, and she said yes if I wanted to… That was an odd reply… If I want to? Why wouldn’t I want to? I came for food. Of course I wanted to… She acted shocked that I wanted to get my meal, and made me feel like it was an inconvenience for me to pick up my own meal. When I started to leave, she did not even tell me to have a nice day. She just went back to looking at her phone.
I do love a good breakfast. I am not sure if I will come back..due to the cold food, minimal ingredients in the omlette (for the price), and the service. I will have to think about it.
