The food was very good. We got 3 fried fish platters w/ Mac and greens.. everything was delicious and the portions were large which was appreciated. Pastor Buck was very nice and friendly, will definitely be returning.

I really needed this!! Ordered the fish platter for take-out and it did not disappoint. I knew it was going to be a hit, when I opened the container and saw those beautiful golden-brown pieces holding their own shape. Whew! I took a small piece and it had a crunch!!! That was it!! Chestnut Hill needs a great spot like this. Get yourselves here.

Just got food from this place and it’s horrible. The smoked wings are dry and salty as hell like not even edible. The mac n cheese noodles are over cooked and hardly no cheese and the yams are straight out of the can, they didn’t even try to doctor them up not a lick of cinnamon nutmeg or butter! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Absolutely Delicious!
Southern Flames BBQ is a hidden gem! The ribs were tender and packed with flavor, and the fried whiting was perfectly crispy and seasoned just right. The sides were just as amazing—greens were flavorful, the mac and cheese was delicious without being overly cheesy (which I loved), and the yams were sweet but not drowning in sauce.
Service was quick and very attentive—everyone was super friendly and really focused on making sure we had a great experience. The whole vibe reminded me of a miniature Reading Terminal Market—lively, warm, and welcoming.
Almost forgot, the peach cobbler was amazing!
Excellent experience overall. I’ll definitely be coming back!

OMG I have been hearing about this place for over a year. I was told it was owned by the senior pastor of the Grace Baptist Church of Germantown. I never met him, however you don’t find too many pastors owning a restaurant, however because of where I live and my work hoursI don’t get over in that neighborhood. After leaving church yesterday I wanted some barbecue and this popped into mind so I took the 35 minute ride up Germantown avenue and went in. I ordered a rib platter with three sides baked macaroni and cheese, potato salad and string beans. The ribs are falling off the bone tender and I do mean falling off the bone tender they taste good without sauce you don’t find that too often. Potato salad and string beans are just like my mama used to make them. I also treat myself to some peach cobbler, it too was delicious. The portions are definitely match the price.

Service was decent so I won’t go too hard, but these were the driest and most overcooked smoked wings I’ve ever had. The greens had decent flavor, but were cold.

My husband and I saw a feature story on one of the local news stations about the Market at the Fareway and decided to check it out. Well let me first start by saying to not bother going on a Sunday because most of the vendors are closed. Southern flames BBQ looked good on tv but it was anything but that so much so that upon looking at the display of the food I opted not to buy anything but my husband decided to still try it. The menu was limited undoubtedly because it was Sunday but from what was available there should have been more of an effort made into what was being served. My husband bought the half chicken, collard greens with kale and yams. The chicken was dry, the collard greens tasted like it was seasoned with a lot of vinegar and some sugar, and the yams were sparse and swimming in juice. The serving looked like what was scooped from the bottom of a pot or baking dish. I don’t know what the service or food is like during the rest of the week but I probably won’t bother to find out.

We have patronized Southern Flames on a few occasions and have enjoyed the food. The food is always seasoned and flavorful with ample portions for the price.
Recently, we ordered takeout for a family dinner. Since we’ve ordered before, we thought it best to call to confirm the whole wings were available before placing an order. We called and confirmed availability. We placed an order over the phone. A few minutes later we received a call noting wings we just ordered was not available. They offered, and we accepted, an alternative dish. We went to pick up the food at which point we were told that yet another protein and a vegetable was not available. They said they could prepare some, but that it would take an hour fifteen minutes. It was pretty disappointing, especially since we had just spoken and confirmed the food we ordered was available. Not a great experience – but how Southern Flames handled the issue is why we will continue to support. Though we had a long wait, they made sure to throw in a lot of extra food on the house to make up for the earlier snafu. They also delivered the food to our waiting car (which given all they gave us was quite a bit). They didn’t have to make an effort to make it right, but they did. Sometimes the best time to judge a place is by how they handle missteps and we were pleasantly surprised by how well southern flames handled this one. Our food was fantastic as usual and we look forward to returning.
