Horrible experience. Workers had friends blasting music in the parking lot with megaphones. Unfriendly. Payed $30 dollars for two meals and was still hungry after. Food was bland and dry. Unacceptable. Extremely disappointed and regretful I even thought of coming. Never again.

Southern Coals is our favorite BBQ place in Fayetteville. The food is always amazing, the people are friendly, and the whole vibe is relaxing and pleasant.
This Saturday, went in for the cheese fries with brisket–the MOST BESTEST tastiness ever. So abundant, we took half home.
Unfortunately… I was so focused on boxing up brisket, I left my cell phone on the table. And discovered it Sunday… while they are closed.
I emailed them, and Ashley got right back to me, took the time to come in on her day off and let me get my phone.
So, great meats, and the kindest people you’ll ever meet. Thanks!

First time visiting and unfortunately it wasn’t a great experience. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and the meat was very dry and chewy. It lacked moisture and tenderness, which is disappointing because pulled pork should be juicy and easy to bite through. Even with the sauce on the side, it didn’t make up for the texture.
The bread was nicely toasted, and the presentation looked decent, but the quality of the pork just didn’t meet expectations. I was really hoping for flavorful, slow-cooked, fall-apart meat — but this missed the mark.

Tried Southern Coals on our way home from Myrtle Beach (about 10 miles off 95 I think)… we liked it. Ribs and smoked chicken breast Very Good. BBQ was just OK. Sides broccoli salad, onion rings and fries very good too. Their breads are awful! Hushpuppies would be better!!! Also order at counter and fix your own beverage and they bring food to you. Icing on the cake was Strawberry Cheesecake from bakery next door

Ordered 2pc Sasuage with okra and onion rings and the half rack of ribs with okra and potato salad. Food came out in 10 minutes.
The fried foods tasted great and were hot, the ribs and sausage were just slightly above lukewarm. Good flavor to the sausage, but I would’ve rather had freshly cooked sausage. Ribs were dry as well. Tried to order beer but were told no one working tonight was able to handle the beer, meaning they all were under 21.
Also, there is a poor girl walking around with a boot on her foot carrying tables. Should’ve at least had her wash dishes instead of potentially worsening her injury.

Since moving to Fayetteville about two years ago, I have done at Southern Coals at least twice a month and have never been disappointed their pool chicken barbecue and baby back ribs are always phenomenal!
They have quite a selection of side dishes!
Customer service is always happy get lucky and ready to serve you quickly and your food doesn’t take long to get out to your table.
They even have four outside tables if you can stand this Eastern North Carolina heat…LoL!

First and LAST time frequenting this place! Portion sizes appeared to be equivalent to a kid’s meal! $57 for (3) brisket combos and a jug of sweet tea! Not complaining about the price had the food been fresh and tasted good. The brisket choked us! The Mac n cheese tasted like pure starch…no salt or cheese to be found! It was starchy and dry! The canned greens were definitely reheated and only tasted like vinegar and sugar! The tiny slither of cornbread was super dry! The baked beans were okay. The only good thing was the sweet tea! It was cheaper to buy the jug than it was to purchase 3 individual drinks. It’s a Friday night, and instead of relaxing, I have to retire to the kitchen to cook a meal to make up for the $57 worth of food I brought home that we couldn’t even eat!

I chose Southern Coals to cater my son’s wedding. They exceeded my expectations! Ashley was so very friendly and accommodating! She walked me through every step. The staff was so pleasant and professional! We chose the roasted chicken and barbecue along with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, macaroni and cheese, rolls, lemonade, and sweet tea. The food was plentiful! The guests absolutely loved it! It was hot and fresh and so flavorful! We are so happy with our choice of Southern Coals! Shout out to Ashley for making this a wonderful experience!

This is a classic barbecue restaurant that has excellent food and service. They don’t serve eastern North Carolina type barbecue, but everyone would enjoy their food even if they’re not fond of the vinegar-based pork so common here. All their meat is smoked. I’ve had the barbecue and pork chops and they were excellent. The sides have always been high-quality and the staff is always present and give fast service. Although this is a family restaurant it is never noisy and is spotlessly clean and very pleasant to sit and relax. Don’t miss it.

We must have come on a bad day or day when the good cook was off bc we were sadly disappointed. We under stand the increase in food cost but c’mon, like one reviewer said kid menu sizes. On top of that there’s an expectation to supplement your employees income with a tip. The smoked skinny chicken breast didn’t smell or tasted smoked, the brisket was dry and flavorless, slaw was common pre mix, an the only thing hot was the small mac and cheese but good. We endeavor to support locl biz but they need to support our wallet with either quality or abundance. Preferably both. Do better.
