South Street Souvlaki has been a mainstay on South Street since 1976. South Street Souvlaki is the original Mediterranean spot on this bustling area. They jave a takeout window for those that are walking and shopping and a nicely decorated indoor dining room tastefully decorated with a Greek theme. The food is always freshly made and flavorful. Their Gyros are awesome and fresh with authentic Greek flavors. Today I tried the #2 Combination platter which features a meat kabob, sliced lamb and beef combo as would be in a Gyro, rice and Turlu which is a Greek veggie combination and delicious. I wasn’t exactly starving when I started but I cleaned the plate. It was a real treat. This is definitely a foodie spot for Mediterranean food.

Best Greek restaurant in Philly! The food is awesome, you can taste the freshness or the ingredients – no wonder this place has been around for almost 5 decades. The staff is very friendly and the service is amazing to top off the delicious food and the wide spread. We had the baba ganoush, chicken souvlaki, lamb chops and the galactoboureko – each preparation was superb!

This is the best Greek restaurant EVER! I am from NYC and I was impressed with the places in Astoria until I came here. Decor is authentic, great atmosphere, excellent service. All the dishes I have tried on the menu are perfection. I want to try everything. So far, I have had the grilled pork chop and braised lamb. Both so amazing. The lamb is one of the best things I ever ate. My significant other likes the souvlaki and Greek salad. You start craving it again once your dish is finished. We’re addicted!!!

The food is great but I’ve ordered here several times and always ask for no cucumber in my sandwich and I’ve never once gotten it without it. I don’t think they bother looking at special instructions so that’s pretty annoying. The food is great nonetheless.

Authentic Greek food, grilled right in front of you.. The place is great and it’s been a staple on South Street for as long as I have been alive. Chicken Souvlaki w/ everything is the play.. get 2.. you won’t be disappointed

Had a great lunch here today, getting the grilled chicken breast salad. The amount of chicken was plentiful, and the flavor is incredible! The feta and chick peas was also nice. I’d definitely come back here to try some of their other meats on the spit. Thank you!

Excellent customer service. I was staying at a hotel near South Street and happen to see it on my way to the grocery store. As I love souvlaki and missed the souvlaki in Athens, Greece, I decided to stop by for lunch. The meat was overcooked and the grilled onions and green peppers were charred. I suspect they prepared it the way Americans like their food. It’s not Athens but it’s edible. Price was reasonable for two sticks of souvlaki with rice.
