My husband and I visited the restaurant on Feb. 20. We drove over an hour to try it out. We sat at the bar and ordered The Goodstuff Spinach Dip as an appetizer, it arrived with a slice of velveeta cheese on top, not what we expected. As our entrees I ordered the Tomato Basil Chicken with shoestring fries, my husband ordered The Crabmeat topped Catfish with corn pudding and onion rings. The chicken breast (if you can call it that) was very small. It looked like they quartered the breast. The catfish was 2 very small filets (you can’t even see the filets in the picture I have) with a blob of crab meat on it and the sauce on the side. The corn pudding was dry and he had 4 onion rings on his plate. The manager never checked on us, and when we told our server she said, “I know they changed the menu and had to down size the portions”, meanwhile we are seeing the food others are receiving and the plates are full! Overall, the flavor of the food was good, however, it was definitely not worth the drive or price.

Quite a disappointing experience for such an impressive looking place. First off this place is huge, vaulted ceilings, outdoor porch, patio, takeout area, and a screened in outdoor event space. Capable of hosting any size event, and more parking than some grocery stores. The food on the other hand was not so impressive, the burger was overcooked and had no flavor to it, spinach dip was served with an odd type of bread, and what tasted like cheese whiz. Even the brownie with ice cream was oddly textured and had no taste. One standout I had, was the etoufee, which was delicious. Creamy base, tons of tails, and a solid mix of seasonings. It may be hit or miss if you visit, but still worth stopping in.

the service was amazing. Caleb was honestly so sweet, attentive, and professional. my rating is low because of the food. sorry but it’s trash for a Louisiana restaurant. i’ve had better red beans & rice at a school cafeteria. the corn pudding and crawfish alfredo were good tho! but that’s it 🙁

And as always South Plains has failed. The restaurant had some open tables, but still had to wait 30 minutes. The restaurant has no working bathrooms do to sewage backup but refused to close the restaurant. No silverware and food was already served. Not sure how to eat a salad without a fork.

I had a great lunch at South Plains. The hostess was friendly upon entrance and our waitress Korrie was AMAZING! Ask for her when you visit South Plains, you won’t be disappointed. She was attentive and anticipated our needs before we could ask. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. I loved the decor and high ceilings.
Now, for the food… it was delicious overall.
Appetizer 1: Buffalo wings 8/10
Traditional wings, cooked well. We actually ordered BBQ but the Buffalo wings were fine.
Appetizer 2: PepperJack Cheese Bites 1000/10
Light, crispy, fried but not greasy. PepperJack cheese gives a slight kick, but not overly spicy.
I could eat these over and over again. Marinara sauce compliments fried cheese perfectly, of course but it wasn’t needed.
Appetizer 3: Deep Fried Mushrooms 9/10
It was almost perfect… it needed a little truffle oil or Parmesan topping to take it over the top. I’d still order it again. Why? Because it’s good!
The mushrooms stayed firm during the batter and frying process which was great. Each bite is light and crispy, cooked to perfection. The 7 sauce added some good flavor, definitely a bonus. I need a bottle of that, ASAP!
Entree 1: Lemon Butter Steak & Shrimp 10/10
It’s served with a Caesar salad and garlic toast.
The side salad was a meal of its own
Portion sizes are on point at South Plains.
You definitely get your monies worth.
The pasta reminded me of Yaka Mein. Simple flavors that come together well. I’m not a mushroom fan but this was delicious.
Entree 2: The Big Italian 10/10 with the perfect name because you have to pace yourself before each bite. Marinara is the only condiment you need with this burger. Beef cooked at a medium well, Cajun sausage mixed with the fried mozzarella…. My goodness
Dessert: Flapjack Cake 1000/10 Let me tell you something about this cake. It’s deeelicious.
It’s a blueberry pancake baked into cake form but better. Kinda reminds me of a Chantilly cake minus the extra fruit. The cinnamon compliments it well. The only thing I’d add would be a drizzle of syrup and one or two strawberries on top…

This was my first time visiting South Plains Everything was GREAT!! I typically don’t eat onion rings, but these were BY FAR the best onion rings I’ve ever had!! I ordered the Crawfish Fettuccine, and it was amazing!! I will definitely be back the next time I visit B.R.
UPDATE 11/16/25: I got the Shrimp Diablo today and it was fantastic! My brother got the chicken fried steak and it was also very good!

The biggest scam I’ve ever seen. A couple of weeks ago I DoorDashed 2 bowls of gumbo. When it arrived, it was in a small cup, so I thought they got the order wrong. I messaged them on Facebook and sent them a picture asking if the size I was sent was correct because it was small and I paid an extra $12 to have them upgraded to a bowl ($6 each). I was messaged back stating that I was correct and that I was sent the wrong size and they added me to a guest recovery log to receive 2 free bowls on my next visit. Yesterday I didn’t feel like visiting so used DoorDash again, and again I was sent the same size bowls so , I got up and went down there. The manager came out and told me that I was wrong, the person that told me I correct was wrong and showed me the difference between the cup vs bowl sizes. They put the rice in the cup and gumbo in the bowl and showed me the difference in sizes which was not that much to justify raising the price $6 to be upgraded to a bowl. I didn’t think about it then, but when I got home, I just wanted to see so I emptied the rice out of the cup and poured the bowl of gumbo into the cup….. all of it, and all of it fit with room to spare…… You people should really be ashamed of yourself for charging extra for NOTHING! The entree was appetizer sized and then you charge extra but do not provide extra food. And people wonder why Zachary can’t have nice places to survive and thrive. it’s bs like this.

I was pleased with the experience I had here. The staff was pleasant and I didn’t have any issues with anything or anyone. The staff was attentive and the wait time was half of what they quoted. I don’t ask for much when I go to a restaurant, mostly just that the food is hot when brought out. That it was and it was tasty as well. We had the boudin egg rolls, seafood pasta, fried catfish and shrimp, onion rings, seasoned potatoes, cinnamon apples, and a kids meal. Prices are reasonable for the food and atmosphere provided. We spent around $80 including the tip. All of it was great and I will probably go back again.

We celebrated my dad and stepmom’s 80th birthdays there and had a fantastic time. Brian is an outstanding manager, and Robin took great care of our entire party. All the staff were friendly!! The food was excellent, the ambiance was perfect, and everyone was happy. Highly recommend for any size family gathering.
