So it was our first time going, we went on a double the other couple been there before. It was rad how their menus were brought on vinyl meaning actual music records, the decor was pretty rad too. Our servers was very attentive every time I’d finish my water he would be there to fill it up. The apps we got were yummy fried pickles, these radical sliders with pimento cheese reminded me living in Charleston, then we split the fried chicken & waffles. The chicken was cooked perfectly very juicy, just wish there was more syrup but overall it was yummy.

Love going to South House! They have a beautifully decorated interior, creative drink menu, and southern style menu.

Don’t miss the basement bar with a cozy living room feel and games like shuffleboard and foosball.

They have trivia on Tuesdays coupled with their taco Tuesday specials. They also have great happy hour specials. I’d even be so bold to say the happy hour loaded fries with brisket is probably the best happy hour deal in Jersey City. It’s a must order! Some of the other happy hour food specials were ok but didn’t feel freshly made.

If you haven’t been, South House is worth checking out!

This place offers amazing food and a great ambiance. It’s a perfect spot to visit with friends and unwind. The basement section is a must-visit, especially if you’re into games. We had a fantastic time there.

Excellent experience and food! They also have a bar downstairs that is more chill for some more social drinks after dinner! It is a loud environment so sit towards the back if needed for easier conversation

Dilson at South House was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we were seated, he was attentive, personable, and incredibly well-managed — striking the perfect balance between being present and allowing us to enjoy our experience. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, kept everything running smoothly, and never missed a beat.

His knowledge of the menu was impressive; every food and drink recommendation he made was spot-on and elevated our entire meal. You can tell he truly understands both the offerings and what guests are looking for. His efficiency, confidence, and genuine hospitality made us feel taken care of from start to finish.

Dilson is the kind of server who turns a great restaurant into an unforgettable experience. South House is lucky to have him, and we’ll absolutely be requesting him on our next visit.

Dropped by South House on a Friday evening. The vibe was chill with good music and great service. We ordered the Key Lime and Hatch Chili Grilled Shrimp Fajita and the Southern Spicy Fried Chicken.

The Shrimp was full of flavor and delightfully tasty. The Southern Spicy Fried Chicken was also quite good, even though it was sweet and not at all spicy.

Overall, it was a great dinner and we look forward to returning again.

i remember coming here a few months ago and enjoying the experience. i specifically wanted some loaded fries but i was told they only serve it during certain times, which makes no sense to me. the mac and cheese was bland but the server did ask if i wanted hot sauce with it (which is weird…). the chicken in the salad was very rubbery. very chewy and gross.

i will say that the servers were really nice. i don’t think i’ll be coming back here which is a shame because i used to enjoy the place!

The food here was a hit-or-miss. The only saving grace was the beef brisket. Unfortunately, the collard green and artichoke dip was horrendous, so don’t waste your time ordering that. The mac and cheese and corn ribs were both subpar.

I rarely will review a restaurant when the food is subpar, preferring to let everyone have their experience which may be much different than mine. But the meal my companions and I had at this restaurant on this day is worth noting. I had high promise for this restaurant by the prior reviews I had read and that it had been recommended by a few of the locals. Unfortunately, there was no one in my party who had a good experience with their meal. I would consider the menu to be solidly Tex-Mex, a menu which I know well. As my first meal of the day I was going to order the chilaquiles (sort of like a breakfast nachos with eggs). I was a bit confused when I was asked whether I would like this as a burrito or a chimichanga. I opted for the burrito. The chips, meat and cheese were heated and wrapped in a flour tortilla and cut in half. The problem was that the dish was not hot and the center ingredients were absolutely cold, as if everything had been refrigerated and warmed just enough to be able to wrap. It was inedible. Three people ordered the breakfast platter and it was clear that the biscuits were not fresh, but had been reheated making the exterior very hard and no fluffiness in the interior at all. Even the bacon seems to have been from a prior meal service with a few of the top pieces being fresh, but the under pieces were over done and some downright burned! The chicken wings were okay, but just okay as a few of them had pretty dry flesh. The steak sandwich did not fare any better. No matter how much processed cheese it is drowned in, it will not make the beefsteak tender. The wait staff tried as best she could to make us happy with offers of other options, but the damage had been done.
I wish any of you willing to try this place a better experience. Unfortunately, it did not work for us. Good luck going forward.
