South Bend Public House – Indiana Dinosaur Museum

Home of The Upside-Down Burger. Fresh. Local. Delicious. There’s a new tradition doing down. The Public House has reinvented the classic American burger.

I definitely recommend the Asian tots! I also got a burger that was pretty decent, but I didn’t like the mayo – I just prefer a thicker mayo. The waitress wasn’t super knowledgeable about the beers which isn’t a huge deal, but there were more beers on tap compared to what she mentioned. Overall decent experience – when you go to the bathroom they play bird sounds over the speaker

Great place to visit on Sunday Funday afternoon. Cheese Curds were tasty. Burgers were delicious. Who could pass up a $5 Bloody Mary? Atmosphere was laid back and they even had live music! Highly recommend!

This restaurant, on the same lot, and under the same ownership as the South Bend Chocolate Factory and Indiana Dinosaur Museum, offers a refreshingly unique and interesting atmosphere to dine in.

I came on a Monday, which happens to be their Hamburger Monday special where you get a hamburger, tater tots or fries for $10, it is regularly around $17. The gourmet burger was absolutely amazing, perfect even. And the tater tots are out of this world. They were by far the best tater tots I’ve ever eaten.

The waitress/hostess was completely on top of things, very lively, and very attentive to my needs and dining experience. It was maybe a little too much, over the top attention … But that really is no fault of theirs, it is my own because humans make me nervous.

The atmosphere, decor, and inside outside seating arrangements are very unique and certainly adds to an exciting dining experience. It is hard to put into words. The restaurant layout, so I have provided number of photographs to speak for me.

This is the best food ever the service is great the first time I ever went to eat after visiting the dinosaur museum and chocolate factory are waitress was awesome her name was LindseyH she was so kind and made sure we didn’t have to ask for anything the refills were delivered on time ,the food was so great I would tell anyone who wants the best burgers literally or the best appetizers in town they also have other foods besides burgers the Philly steak melts in your mouth. Some may say something about the prices but you get what you pay for this isn’t no cheap McDonald’s food but in the end you will be happy you spent out for quality food and service we went back just to eat and Mike was great they dedicate themselves to give you the best experience you can ask for .

Kids Mac and cheese was just kraft, dino nuggets looked like something from the supermarket. The total were fried to hard for the kids to enjoy. I got the street corn burger which was good. The meat was cooked very nicely but the street corn didn’t quite come through as far as taste. Really enjoyed the cheese curds

Stopped in after going to the Indiana Dinosaur Museum! It’s just right across the way! My nephew and I sat outside. Our waitress was Kate and she was phenomenal! She was very attentive, kind, and made sure we had plenty of ice water since it was so hot outside. My nephew got the chicken strips and they are Dinosaur nuggets! Super cute and he ate everything! I had the Public House burger with no bun with tots. We ate everything on the plate! I forgot to grab my receipt that Kate told us had a discount for the SB chocolate company to use at the location there in the Dino museum or at their order location at any time. We ended the meal with receiving a couple of decadent mint chocolates from the sb chocolate company! It was a really nice lunch even with a bit of a wait with big families ahead of us they came to museum..but that was okay cause we always have nothing but time! Thank you Kate for the fabulous service! Would love to go back with my boyfriend to enjoy a dinner!

We decided to try the Public House on our way to South Bend last Sunday for a late lunch. We had never been there. This is a beautiful space with cool fixtures and a sweet setting. Our service was good, maybe a little too attentive due to the small number of diners. We had a fancy cocktail each, and they were really good.

The food was very good. We had a hot honey sandwich and Philly steak sandwich with the sweet Asian chili tots with a wasabi sauce that we enjoyed. There was live entertainment that was very good. The TVs were tuned in to NFL which was great.

The seating in this place is pretty hard and a little uncomfortable. If you are a little anti-social like me, the family seating can be a bit much, especially when a group of 10 adults with a mob of little children are seated right next to you. I did not enjoy that part. I will also add that it was really cold in the restaurant. We wore our coats.

I suggest offering couples (especially those that don’t like dining around a bunch of little kids) seating in smaller tables, and turn the heat up in the winter.

We’ll try it again.

Stopped there for lunch with an employee and really enjoyed our experience.

Our waitress was kind and attentive. The food was delicious. I had the salmon BLT with the Thai tater tots. The tater tots are to die for, I wish I lived closer so I could eat them again. The salmon BLT was very good, the salmon was cooked perfectly and the bacon was a good thickness. I do wish the salmon filet was thinner, as it overpowered the other elements a bit. Otherwise, it was very good. I would get it again.

Great place!

We toured the dino museum and thought this place to be great for dinner. For a kitchen to be staffed on a slow night, the food wasn’t good. For it being almost 6pm and literally 5 tables (to include our table of 4) sat it was very disappointing to say the least.

The Public House at Howard Park is great so we thought this one would be great as well.

The singer had a great voice, just too loud (can’t hold a conversation unless you’re in the other persons face). You could hear the other tables talking because they seem to be using outside voices when conversing. Assuming the man with the tablet was the manager or GM, (he had control of the volume) he was oblivious to how it affected the ~12 people that were in there dining.

To preface: once upon in my lifetime, I’ve worked in the restaurant business and wasn’t going to send something back to the kitchen. That’s a hard no. We ordered the steak medium well, it was cooked well done (our waitress made the comment of it being done too well and asked if we wanted to send it back for a remake, we politely declined). $42 by the way for the Ribeye. The upside down burger is bloody so if you like it done like that-by all means..other than that, it’s a stamp on the bottom of the burger bun. It’s a hype on a fancy grab name. Burger is unseasoned like their pulled pork. “Asian” tater tots is smothered in sweet and sour sauce making the potato soggy. Too much sauce is a thing. Hard pass, even with it being complementary from the museum. We didn’t want anything remade, we paid for all the items we ordered and honestly made no fuss about it, telling Mike it was okay. To make things “right” they gave us two slices of whatever dessert we wanted.

The waitress was fantastic, we made sure to tip above 20% (tip your waitress/waiter please!). The pricing is what you would expect it being something in relationship with the museum so take it for what it’s worth. The food wasn’t worth the sit down. Don’t eat with your eyes.

Try the food for yourselves though, you may have a great experience here. Definitely visit the chocolate factory!
