Came here a couple weeks ago for a girls dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and as usual I really love the dim lighting. For drinks we got a pitcher of Sangria, which was really good. For our apps we ordered the oysters and crispy mushroom risotto tater tots. The oysters were so fresh and delicious! The best I’ve ever had. Loved the risotto tater tots. Never had anything like that before so it was nice to try something new! The sauces they served with it were good too. For my entree I don’t remember the name sadly and couldn’t find it online. It was fish from the specials menu. Served with fingerling potatoes and carrots. It was delicious. The service could have been better, server wasn’t really happy and inviting but we did have a great time and would definitely return.

South Bay never disappoints, we tried Happy Hour, great menu. Non of that half price half portion, full portion JUST cheaper. Drinks are always good and strong. LOVE IT!

We totally enjoyed the food and services at South Bay. We started with watermelon salad, lamb lollipops, and steak tartare. My main entree was lamb chop. I left nothing on the bones. All dishes were good. We also like the orange crème brûlée.

The service here was great and attentive however the food was really bad. Charcuterie plate was wet slices of rubbery cheese, questionable salami with mushy olives. The fried cheese ball was the one saving grace of the whole plate and the only decent bite of the whole meal. From the “tapas” side of the menu ordered the scallops over mashed potato with crispy pancetta which was slightly decent. Family ordered the strip steak cooked medium and it arrived EXTRA EXTRA well done. The rib eye special was also requested medium but was cooked to a lovely gray color and equally gross. I was excited to see fried squash blossoms but they were inedible – heavy greasy batter which made them really mushy, and we couldn’t leave fast enough. If it was one miss-cooked item then I might have been like whatever but the whole meal was terrible and not even worth the hassle.

South Bay brings in a charming vibe the moment you walk it. Its a cozy place and the staff greets you to your table. We had a fantastic start with the drinks. I ordered the smoked old fashioned, and it was delicious. The perfect blend of smoky and bitters, paired excellently with a peanut butter bourbon. Unfortunately, that is where the good experience ended for us. Being a seafood restaurant, I asked the server what she recommends, and I was recommended a Paella. It was one the most bland things I have ever tried in my life at a restaurant. There was no salt/seasoning on it (looking at other reviews, I have read about “bland food” in many of them). Perhaps, there’s one particular chef who under seasons the food? For the second time in my life, I sent a dish back after taking 2 bites. I opted to switch to braised short rib. The problem repeated. Absolutely no seasoning. I was shaking salt on every morsel. At that point, I was too conscious and didn’t want to offend our lovely server that I chose to eat this $38 dish which was absolutely not worth it. We got the desert and I ordered the puff pastry with Nutella. It was good but not out of the ordinary. As I was on the last bites of my desert (hadn’t finished it yet, was still working on the ice cream), a different server came and just took the plate away as I held the spoon in my hand! I was so surprised and shocked that I didn’t know how to respond.

Subpar flavor. I’m not sure what happened considering the reviews were so great. I had the tapas portion of hanger steak fries and kale salad. Both the salad and steak were disappointing because they lacked any flavor. There was chimichurri sauce but it tasted basically of just olive oil. None of the herbs had any flavor. Very odd. I had to ask for steak sauce but they didn’t have any so I just salted it. The issue with the Caesar salad was that they must have forgotten the lemon juice. It tasted like mayonnaise without salt. There were 3 slivers of anchovies but again not flavorful and a little dry for some reason. The most delicious of the bunch was the fries. It was really crispy and flavorful. It’s too bad that the other two items were almost returnable but I ordered at 8:45pm and the kitchen closed at 9pm although the restaurant was open until 10. Wouldn’t go back. Thanks for the fries for $40.

Decent food, my red snapper just need a tad bit of salt and pepper but everything else we ordered was well done. Nicely decorated and friendly staff. We sat in the upper section, which thankfully wasn’t crowded like the outdoor seating. Tables are spaced a good distance apart. We took our time eating and drinking because of how comfortable the atmosphere was. We were never rushed by the staff and didn’t have to wait long for each course. I enjoyed our appetizers and I couldn’t stop eating the fries! Irented up recommending to a friend the very next day. I will visit here again.
