Ball Square Cafe still does the grilled mashed potatoes, but I’m not seeing their version of Boston’s Best Blue on their menu either. I think it …

Great place for brunch with all the standards. The standards for if you want to walk away feeling so stuffed that you may go into hibernation. We got the eggs benedict, served with a side of this crispy mash, and the apple cinnamon french toast. The french toast was surprisingly light. I thought I was pretty full after eating a little more than half of the eggs benedict, but also finished half of the french toast. The hot chocolate was perfect for a cold day. Service and seating was fast as well. Kudos!

This was a pleasant surprise! Certainly a diner, not a cafe. But it’s a great classic local diner. Floors need a coat of paint, but the food is really solid. Everything in my sandwich tasted really fresh, fries were warm and fluffy with a perfect little crunch. The iced latte was good too! Their bar isn’t operational, but they’re open from 7am-2:30pm, so you really don’t need a full bar, I never found myself wishing the bar was open. Staff was also kind and friendly.

So if you want high-quality, no-frills diner food at a great price point, this is a great place to go. I could see myself coming here with friends for a hearty hangover meal on Sunday mornings

If you are a pancake lover, then you must try their pancakes here. They were so fluffy, light, and flavorful. We ordered the apple cinnamon pancake and was surprised to find the apples inside the pancake, but it was yummy regardless.

Of course, we had to order a savory dish to complement our sweet one so we got the Tuscan omelet, which was served with their home fries. I really liked the portabello mushrooms.

Make sure to come here early before it gets crowded around 10:15 AM on the weekends. The server was nice and checked on us several times. We didn’t order drinks this time but I know you serve your own coffee/tea. I’m so glad this brunch restaurant is in my neighborhood!

Just a mid experience. Service was super mid, I sat at the bar and I was one of the only people there, yet I rarely saw my waitress. You get your coffee yourself which they didn’t tell me, just added to my tab.

The food was mid, not much flavor or spice which was surprising.

Would definitely be willing to come back to this place to try it again because it was really busy when I first got there, but overall saw nothing special here.

5 star as I want to be generous!
The omelette was OK but could have been better for $20.99 (goat cheese added) with loads of meat.

The hash brown was something else, they should change the name to mashed potatoes.

Waffle was good but probably I forgot to ask the crème over it.
$3.75 each for a cup of coffee? Lol
Overall 4 star and willing to go back. Thanks

Best phrase I can use to describe here is “slightly off”.

Walking in to be seated was a strange afair. It took a minute to be acknowledged, even standing directly in front of the hostess. We then watched the hostess hand damp rags to other staff. Usually a sign of tables needing to be bussed. But there were several open tables, and the one we were sat in still had scraps from the previous patrons. Slightly off.

The (we think) sole wait staff took a while to get to us (which I do not hold against them), and they were very kind and efficient. However, we lost track of how many other staff there were, moseying around on their phones, chatting with other staff. Again, slightly off.

The coffee was….not slightly off. It was just terrible.
Food was okay. If you’re hungry enough you’ll enjoy it.

But then you’ve finished your meal, back to observing the surroundings and asking more questions. Something about the inside is just slightly off, with the uneven back against the wall, and the self service coffee station with kitchen ingredients on shelves above. The large closed up bar, front and center creating an awkward space. Some tables finishing every last scrap, drinking every last drop, whereas others have over half full meals left.

While I don’t plan on visiting again, I will be thinking about this slightly off place for a while.

Delicious food and really great service. The menu is very similar to the Ball Sq Cafe, but just as good. Omelets are yummy! Good coffee and OJ!!

We went here three different days during our stay in Boston because it was so good! The orange juice was fresh, they re-filled our coffee and both the classical american pancakes and the egg-based breakfast’s were dericious! Favourite was the french toast.

Great dinner in ball square ! It was tough to venture out to ball square, but the new T stop makes it much easier to check out places like this. Came here for an early breakfast and were happy at the quick and high quality service.

Got dishes very quickly after ordering – portion sizes are great. The coffee station is self serve, and easy to navigate. Very cheap in terms of what you are paying for and very kid friendly – getting appropriate seating and booster seats for smaller children. Hope to come by again soon!

June 2024:
Enjoyed the space and the aesthetic although expected more of the food. My eggs were watery and didn’t like that. Potatoes were good though. I appreciated that my toast didn’t have butter and I was able to control the portion.
