First impression:( not good! After reading the reviews for Soul-out, my husband and I decided to visit! We came all the way from Birmingham… what a mistake! I value customer service more than anything.. especially being a first time customer! Completely ignored at counter while the person on the phone taking orders as customers like myself waited in front of her… not even an acknowledged to say, “we’ll be right with you “:(.. The food was disappointing, as the macncheese was missing cheese, chicken dry and average portions and I was served burnt black cornbread:(.. spent $20.. very disappointed! It’s easy to fix up a plate for an expected review… make it look good…. but surprise, surprise:( ! We won’t be back! My husband didn’t eat:(

Decided to branch out and try something new. Walking in, there was a line and multiple people sitting and waiting for food. Not a lot of tables and space was small. Everyone was nice though, and had a pleasant attitude. Wait time was estimated to be at 15 minutes, but ended up being closer to 45 minutes.
I got the grilled pork chops with mac and cheese and fried okra. The pork chops were very thin. The mac and cheese was extremely cheesy but bland. Pork chops had a smoky flavor but spice wise tasted very bleh.
Brother in law got the ox tails, fried green tomatoes, and fried okra. His okra was mushy, the fried green tomatoes had a good crust though. His ox tails was flavorful and the rice was cooked perfect.
Hubby had a double cheeseburger with fries. Fries had no salt and the burger was “alright”
All together it was something different to try and ok. I would definitely recommend trying to call in an order if possible and if not, prepare for a wait in your car- its more comfy.

Went on a Sunday after church. It was busy, but not terribly busy for 12.30 on a rainy Sunday. It took 10 minutes to get through the line that was about 3 people long at that time. Our group’s first order came out 45 minutes later. It took an hour for the last person in our group to get his food. The wait seemed extremely long for food that is cooked in large batches – not cooked to order. My wife ordered baked chicken with 2 veggies, and I ordered oxtails with 2 veggies. We ordered one bottled water. Our order was $56! I have no idea why the meal was so expensive. I have to think we were overcharged. My wife paid with her card, so I wasn’t really paying attention to the cashier when she told us of the cost. I know a meat and 2 usually is around $10 – $15 depending on what is ordered, so I was blown away when my wife told me the cost.
The oxtails were very good. The baked chicken was good as well. The collards and black eyed peas were a bit too salty for me, but salt is a matter of preference. The veggies were definitely edible. Overall, the food was good, but it was not worth the $56 paid for the food.
The atmosphere is good. I thought the chalk board walls were a cool touch, and I enjoyed reading what some of the patrons had written on them.
Probably won’t go back, primarily because of the long wait times and overpriced meal.

The service was excellent, and I really enjoyed the cozy, homey atmosphere. While the food was a bit too salty for my taste, overall, it was a great experience.

I had the shrimp and grits and the fish and grits. My food was so good, and they gave you more than enough on each plate. When I visit Tuscaloosa, I will definitely stop by.

Really wasn’t feeling the love. Kind of like the same attitude you get at Archibald’s in Northport. If you know, you know
