I decided to try this place again, hoping if I tried something different, it’d WOW me. That wasn’t the case. It still took a little while to be greeted. We stood there quite a bit of time waiting. I had been looking at an old menu on my phone so I ordered beef tips. The cashier didn’t tell me the menu had changed and rang me up for pot roast. I didn’t know until they called out my order that she’d done that.
The pot roast was not good and the rice wasn’t either. I’ve never had pot roast with bell peppers. It just didn’t pair well for me. And they didn’t have plain white rice and the seasoned rice just didn’t taste good with this pot roast.
The green beans were AWFUL!! They had so much pepper that it was overbearing. All you can really taste is pepper and beyond that, it didn’t have any flavor.
The yams were too sweet and inedible. So going forward I will save my money and skip this place. It’s just not good and isn’t worth what you’re paying. I really wanted to like it but they just aren’t hitting the mark.

I have been wanting to try this place since I noticed they were in the mall. I’m really not a fan that some of the meats are only available on certain days. It’s caused me not to go several times. This particular day they had something I would want. I got the ribs, mac & cheese, collard greens, yams, and cornbread. Overall, it was just meh. I wouldn’t be running to go back, if I even go back. I did feel it’s a little pricey for what you get. I don’t really want to spend $20 on one meal in the mall but that’s just me (and that’s doesn’t include a drink). Service was slow, no one seemed to be moving fast at all as if they’re on their own time.
Ribs – 8/10 – They were very tender and just fell off the bone. They can use a little more seasoning but the BBQ sauce helped them to have flavor.
Collard Greens – 5/10 – The collard greens really lack flavor and have a strong taste of vinegar in them. They just weren’t very good. They need to be cooked in meat for flavor.
Mac & cheese – 3/10 – This was my least favorite item. I thought they were awful. I let my daughter taste it she she felt the same. I don’t know if it’s the type of cheese used or a seasoning used but the taste was way off and downright nasty. They should have been on it with this… you have to get that right especially if you charge extra for it (on the menu).
Yams – 9/10 – This was my absolute favorite. They definitely did their thing with seasoning the yams. They were so sweet and delicious. Seasoned too perfection. My only complaints were $3.65 for an additional side is a bit ridiculous and they are canned yams that they seasoned (still very good though).
Cornbread – 9/10 – Very good cornbread and paired well with the meal. No complaints. It was as it should be in my opinion but I like the sweeter cornbread. I wouldn’t say it’s traditional cornbread but that it’s similar to Jiffy.

First time at this spot. I ordered the jumbo wing combo with green beans and collard greens. Wings tasted okay at best. Collards tasted a little dull and had too many stems in it. The green beans were actually good to me. Wings were missing seasoning and tasted bland once you got past the outer parts. They can do better. And also when you tell your customer 10 minutes for it to be ready, please let it be 10 minutes. The brother that took my order was dilly dallying on my order. Sorry to say but I won’t be back. Just not consistent with customer service. And then the review about the female customer who saw one of the staff throwing trash over the counter where the food is was a terrible thing for me to hear and read. I give this place a couple more months before they are gone. They only been here 3 months now from what I hear.

I came specifically for the food during lunch time (1:30p). I was told by the lady working behind the counter that she was on break until 2. I went to Jade Express instead. I witnessed at least 5 other customers get turned away. I would love to see this place do great but it’s things like this that makes it hard for a business to sustain.

This was the worst soul food I’ve ever had. The fish was the most decent thing in the order & that was just barely. Only some parts of the fish were crispy. The greens weren’t seasoned at all & were under cooked & the wedges were unseasoned & tasted burnt in some areas. The food looked a lot better than it tasted.

Soooo i order this through doordash. i got the fried Chicken with collards, mac&cheese, and cornbread, fried pork chops with pinto beans and peach cobbler…. The food was good but not great. Like it had flavor but was missing seasoning. Like I wanted to enjoy it but it was still mediocre. I did end up throwing my own seasoning into the dishes and that made them more enjoyable which is why I gave them a three star. The food was a good base, Just needed a little more seasoning.

Saw the video of a gentleman eating here so I decided to try it my wife read the reviews before we went they seemed very negative and we were almost convinced not to take a chance on a cooked meal from here. Well to our surprise none of the things we read about happened on our visit and as for the food wow it was very very good and the amount we got in our To go plates was extremely alot we were able to eat twice on those plates for the 16 bucks per plate we paid which rounds it up to about 8 bucks a meal for us that was savings for us. We had the smothered chops which nearly fell off the bone and collard, cabbage, okra, mac & cheese, cornbread and some of the best yams around here in Concord this food was so good we purchased 2 additional plates to take to my mother and older brother who swore how good the food was for themselves we paid around 72 bucks totally but for that amount of food and how good it was and were able to make 2 meals a piece off it thats a win win in my opinion, for those of us that are use to eating home cooked meals this as close as your gonna get around Concord we will definitely be entertaining ourselves and others we know with what we have discovered at the Soul Kitchen.

I wanted to like this place so bad—finding good soul food out here is so hard—but the reviews aren’t lying. The customer service is awful and obnoxious, especially when the owner and his family are working. The Spanish guy is really nice, and one Spanish girl is nice too, but there’s another Spanish girl who acts like she’s the boss and has the nastiest attitude.
The food is super bland. The pot roast didn’t have a single drop of seasoning, the gravy tastes like nothing, and the mac & cheese… I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s like little crumbly balls of cheese that fall apart. And it’s not cheap, but people still buy it, probably because they can afford rent. I honestly don’t know how—it’s really terrible.
