I loved everything about my visit to Sorn Thai. The food, the atmosphere,the service; everything was top-notch. I highly recommend coming here with a group of four more and just sharing all of the small plates that you get.
For those who drink definitely check out some of their cocktails, they they have a good variety of how specialty cocktails, as well as your classics and a good selection of local beer as well. I ordered their special crispy duck dish and it was cooked to perfection! Nicely spiced as well.
I will have to return to get more of the crab rangoons, as well as ordering my dish extra spicy! I went milder with my spice since we were sharing.

Came here for brunch and ordered two appetizers, Roti dip, which is totally not worth it for $14 dollars imo, it was just few pieces of roti and curry sauce. Nothing special. Also we order Fried mushrooms with Truffles, which was okay. We should have went with other choices. Then for main dishes, we had Moo Hong, Massaman Beef curry, Brunch chicken Ka Prow, and veggies stirred fried. Over all the service was great, the food portion was not matching to the portion. For example you have a curry dish with plenty of sauce and the rice bowl was the size of toddler portion, we had to order extra order of (toddler size)rice to finish the dish as the curry was slightly too sweet. I guess this is for upscale local diners. I would only come back for the brunch menu next time as the flavors were pretty good. One last thing is the tipping, do you tip base on the total or total plus tax? To my understanding, it’s customary tipping on the total amount without the tax! When I paid it was suggesting me to tip base on total plus taxes.. so just heads up, ain’t gonna whine about few bucks but just being a honest customer. 🙂

I came here during off peak hours to see how good the food would come out and how fast service would be. 4 star for flavors, but 2 for overall experience
The crispy chili chicken which is fried should come out hot! Mine was a bit warm (almost room temp) some on the bottom were warmer. Unacceptable for most foods but especially a fried food.
The fish was barely enough for a few bites not worth the 20 value.
Being in an upperscale area I’d expect more which is the reason for the 2 stars. There are plenty of Thai restaurants in the area but if you’re going to be perceived as higher end you’ve got to perform for everyone.

Immediately greeted and sat on a weekday for a late lunch. Loved the gyoza and cocktails. Curry (massaman+puffs) was a tad sweet for me but I’m also unfamiliar with Thai flavors as this was my first time, so could be normal. Beef was tender but not very flavorful. Beef in the pad see ew was similar with a touch more flavor. I would return to try more menu items!

My friend and I saw the review of the Kanom Jeen Nam Ya ($20) and drove out to Tysons to try it. We also decided to splurge and share Garlic Pepper Maine Lobster ($27) and a Duck Roll appetizer ($10). Everything was delicious, but sharing the very small portion of branzino and the couple of bites of lobster tail just didn’t work. With the appetizer and Thai Iced Teas ($6), it was a good, but expensive lunch.

Food was just okay. The kanomjeen num ya wasn’t very rich, and the fried whole fish tasted old, being chewy and not crispy. The shrimp croquette wasn’t good at all; the pork tasted a little sour, perhaps due to the sauce, but my friend and I couldn’t finish it.

Found on the final Washington Post restaurant guide by Tom Seitsema, and open on Thanksgiving when six other places I tried weren’t, this was a most happy good luck draw. The menu is fairly extensive, though similar to pho, there are many common ingredients, allowing a great chef to more readily handle a large menu. We started by picking three “meat” appetizers – as a meal: shrimp rolls, duck rolls, and crab rangoons. Each are these were a delight. Just warmed to be satisfying, the duck rolls are constructed as a mini Chinese Peking duck roll. The Sorn version was without the skin of the Chinese version, and had everything else, including the just so sauce to complement, not cover. The shrimp rolls are so cute – a spring roll sheet wrapped around shrimp meat, just a tad spicy, with a cute shrimp tail sticking out from one end. The crab rangoons – little four corner pastry shells, filled with an amazing crab cream sauce, best consumed in little bites as one might an ice cream cone. Also served with its own mild sauce, just another perfect combination for the sight and the palate. Next we ordered their “Geang Kua” mussels, a “two pepper” spice rating. Served in a light brown sauce, with basil, green and red peppers, a bit spicy, and a dozen fresh mussels and a bowl of rice on the side (more was offered – we declined) and this too hit all the marks for a superb dish. Sorn have an extensive (separate) drink menu, with alcohol on one side, and soft drinks on the other side, along with the dessert list. We both chose Jasmine hot tea, served in a glass mug with a tea bag, the waitress was quick with refills of hot water. They were out “last night” of the sweet sago, so we ordered mango sticky rice, and crème brûlée. Both were most excellent, just right versions of the dish. The crème brûlée custard is green, a nod to the barely discernible “infusion” of the essence of pandan leaf. Served with a few fresh blueberries and strawberries — just perfect. On the strength of these dishes, we ordered two of the fried rice dishes for takeout.
And for such high quality, the prices are reasonable.

If I could give zero stars I would. After being served ALLERGENS not once but twice * it was very clear to me that this establishment does not care enough to provide careful considerate attention to detail for people who are allergic to certain foods. The first time we tried Sorn after being very clear about a gluten allergy, we were given dishes that had gluten. After bringing it to the attention of the front of house, we were practically yelled at by the woman manager/owner which was the most bizarre and unnerving considering how packed the restaurant was. It’s like she had no intention of apologizing much less being civil about the mistake on THEIR end. I don’t even know why I tried to give them another chance…maybe because I truly believe in second chances, maybe I’m foolish, nevertheless. I did. I tried once more, and this time in addition to stating repeatedly that there is a gluten allergy and also an egg allergy – (and reminded them of the enormous mistake made on our first visit) wouldn’t you know what came on the Pad Thai? … eggs. I honestly cannot believe how reckless and indifferent this restaurant is. Believe me, if you have food allergens….do NOT eat here.

This is my second time here, and I came to support a Thai friend’s business and try some new dishes I hadn’t had before. The food here truly helps cure my homesickness—it tastes just like home! The flavors are authentic, the portions are just right, and the prices are reasonable.
I highly recommend the Moo Hong and Khao Soi with Salmon — they absolutely made my day and made me want to come back to try every item on the menu. The drinks are also unique, well-balanced, and refreshing.
I finished the meal with their egg yolk and rum raisin ice cream, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. What a perfect way to end a meal!

The food here is amazing. My friend and I ordered Khao soi, Kanoom Jeen Nam Ya, and so many small plates to try, and so far they were all delicious. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The service is friendly and attentive. I definitely will be back, highly recommend it to everyone.
