I went to dinner at Soraya in Detroit with my best friends for Valentine’s Day. The food was delicious overall, and we tried a variety of sushi rolls. The King Sushi Roll was especially good, and I highly recommend it. The noodles were also very flavorful and definitely worth trying. The crab balls were just okay—I’d give them about a 6/10.

The decor wasn’t quite what I expected. I was hoping for something a bit nicer before walking in, but the quality of the food definitely made up for it. Overall, it was a good dining experience, mainly because of the tasty dishes.

Isabella (server) and the chef made accommodations in regard to my husband’s diet restrictions. They went above and beyond to make sure that my husband can experience the great food in their restaurant. I have never been impressed this much on the level of service they provided. It was definitely a memorable one on top of the food being so delicious. Everything we ordered were really tasty especially the Shiro Dragon Roll, Pork Katsu and the Matcha Tiramisu.
We will definitely come back. Thank you for the best service and experience.

Went here for my husband’s birthday celebration. We shared plates among the table and then got sushi. The sea bass was incredible, so was the chicken! Little pricy, and they were out of a lot of stuff on a Saturday, so that was a bummer. We would go back.

This place is solid! Did not have any sushi, but a little surprised by the price complaints given the portion size. The salad was huge, and the pork Katsu was easily two servings. Gyoza nothing special but also tasty. I would def go back!

Not overly happy about my experience here, next year I’ll be choosing a different place. So I came here for my 21st birthday and I was hoping to spend $200 just trying different things, when I get there, everything‘s fine, the scenery is beautiful I had a reservation set For the bar and I should’ve known it was a problem when he said, do you guys just want to get a table? So he sits us at a table then the waiter tells me that they won’t be serving any alcoholic drinks because they’re waiting for new alcohol licenses which is cool and all
But I wish the waiter would’ve told us that before we sat down because we would’ve left it is my 21st birthday after all. The food was nice and it saved the day, but I spent frugally because I didn’t get the experience that I wanted. I feel like they weren’t as attentive as I like, and they didn’t try to salvage the experience when they realized that I was unhappy on my birthday. My Husband had to take me to a different restaurant. But other than that, I give it three stars for the overall and four stars for the food. The food really made the day. If the food was nasty, this probably would’ve been a bad review.

I went to Soraya for the Valentine’s Day tasting menu and it was phenomenal. I had high expectations going into dinner because the menu looked great – Soraya over delivered. The flavors are masterfully mixed. Each dish was interesting and complex, but the flavors went so well together that the dish almost felt simple (in a good way). I was left thinking “why aren’t these flavors always paired together” instead of thinking “wow the chef took an interesting risk.” The white fish dish we had was out of this world – it was on a squash puree and flavored with mirin and other light flavors, but had a hint of truffle oil that grounded it. The yuzu cheesecake was delicious and the black sesame flavoring really rounded it out. I can’t wait to go back to try the regular menu!

Soraya is a solid spot for sushi in downtown Detroit. The space feels modern and upscale without being too formal, and it’s a great place to grab drinks after work or catch up with friends. The sushi is fresh and well put together—nothing too wild, but definitely high quality.

One of the best parts is the cocktail menu. The drinks are creative and really well made, not your average bar stuff. I had one with Japanese tea flavors that was especially good. They also have a happy hour during the week with cocktails and deals on sushi rolls, which makes it a great value for what you’re getting.

Overall, Soraya delivers—good food, strong drinks, and a cool atmosphere right in the heart of the city. I’ll definitely be back, especially for happy hour.

A friend recommend this place to my wife and I and we really enjoyed ourselves. The service was outstanding the were very friendly and got us everything in a timely manner. The ambiance was very modern they did have something to block booths but it makes it difficult to see the entire restaurant and hides some of the sushi rolling etc. The food was amazing! Highly recommend the Popcorn Lobster roll and the seabass they were outstanding! The fried chicken. My wife got was a bit under cooked, if you get this dish I suggest getting it well done. The drinks were so fresh and poured perfectly and creative. Highly recommend this spot to anyone!

I haven’t had a dining experience like this in awhile. The starters were all delicious and arrived super fast. The octopus skewers were cooked perfectly, and the broccolini tempura was very good. The lobster croquette was also delicious and creamy. I celebrated my birthday and I was accommodated really well which was nice. Everyone in my party enjoyed it. Also the “small plates” were larger than I expected.

Overall, quite a disappointing experience. Both the sushi and sashimi were just average — while fresh, the salmon and other cuts were clearly not premium grade, more like standard supermarket quality. The rolls were basic and lacked any memorable flavor. For the high prices, I expected much better quality and execution. Fried items were also nothing special. Service was polite and attentive, which I appreciated, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to make up for the underwhelming food. Not worth the price — I won’t be returning.
