Sophie’s Kitchen is a family owned restaurant serving up some incredibly delicious and authentic Cambodian cuisine!

Lemongrass wings: the absolute star of the show. hot off the fryer, the chicken had the perfect crisp but so much *tenderism*. crispy, garlicky, slightly sweet… 10/10 from me

Papaya salad (nhoam la hong): a great starter and/or palette cleanser. the red pepper flakes added a nice heat that built up the more i ate it, it surprised me

Stir fried egg noodle (mee cha): i have never had a noodle dish this flavorful. i was expecting this to be a standard side of noodles and veg to eat with other items, but i found myself wanting to just eat the entire plate. very savory and garlicky, good comfort food

Yellow curry coconut sour soup (somlawe majou kteah): i found this curry to be overly sweet, but that is no fault to the restaurant. my friend really enjoys pineapple and coconut milk in their curry so she picked this one. she loved it, i am more of a savory person so i would pick something else next time. the meat and veggies were tender and cooked well

Tony was very helpful and attentive. The inside was casual and the front seating area was pretty tight. But the food was so delicious, the ambiance didn’t matter. I will absolutely be back in the future for more!

Chicken skewer is delicious, but the more you eat, you may feel like it is a tiny bit too salty. Mee kon tang is normal: texture of noodle is good but beef is a little too chewy. My favorite is the sauteed pumpkin with chicken; the seasoning is good, but the rice is too dry. The soup is sour and quite spicy even when I asked for mild. The waitress later asked the kitchen to lower the spicy level even more and it tastes a lot better for me. It has a strong lemongrass taste. The pork rib is still pretty tough for me since I prefer fall of the bone. I think good food overall and price is affordable.

Amazing food and great service! We had never eaten at this type of cuisine, so we asked our waiter. His recommendations were great and he brought our soups in the right order to maximize our enjoyment. We did not take beautiful food pictures because we were too busy enjoying our meal!

I love every dish we tried at Sophie’s for the very first time. We got the tossed papaya salad, chicken wings, beef skewers, spiced and sour soup, and Japanese eggplants. Everything is so well-seasoned, we love spicy food so we asked for it in every dish we had, and we’re so happy that the heat and the spice are so perfect without being overpowering the whole meal. Small place down stairs but I believe they have upstairs to sit too. Highly recommend if you want to try Cambodia food!

Delightful little gem. We went in knowing very little about Khmer cuisine, but the server did an excellent job walking us through everything. We ended up with a meal that was new to us, delicious, and satisfying. Be careful if you have a heart condition because some of it can be a bit salty, but that’s also part of the reason it is so delicious

Finally got down to check out Sophie’s Kitchen and my only regret was taking so long to get there. I cannot say I’ve had a lot of Cambodian food but I can say I’ve had a lot of good food and Sophie’s kitchen delivered good Cambodian food.

I appreciate how they could customize the spicy level on nearly all their dishes, so no limitations for you or your friends who might not be into spice. I had frog legs for the second or third time, this time fried, and yes they do taste like chicken. E3 (a sautéed seafood dish I won’t attempt to pronounce) was amazing. I’d running it back in a heartbeat.

Service is friendly. Prices reasonable. While the restaurant appears small, it is a bit larger than I imagined. Enjoy!

Sophie’s Kitchen has been on my list for years, and we finally stopped in recently when a friend was visiting from out of town and wanted to try the Cambodian food scene in Philly. While the menu was a bit difficult to navigate due to our lack of familiarity with Cambodian cuisine, our server was super kind and patient as he explained each dish and what to expect in terms of flavor profiles. In the end, we ordered several appetizers and entrees to share between 3 people, which were all incredibly delicious. The portions were moderate in size and not overly large, so we managed to finish everything on the table. This is a great spot for anyone looking to try something a little different or wanting to impress out-of-towners with some bold flavors.

Sophie’s kitchen is my go to spot for Cambodian food. Their fried appetizers are all amazing, esp chicken wings. A3 soup with beef gives you a kick. It is quite spicy, citrusy and hearty. I also like their fish curry.

However my recent visit is a bit let down. The service is lacking. I waited for more than 15 min for the appetizer. Maybe they are short staffed during holiday season.

Served by the owner’s niece, Niyah. Fabulous restaurant. Everyone is friendly, place is spotless, more dining upstairs. Chicken wings with sweet and sour chili sauce is fabulous. Yellow curry chicken with green beans and pineapple, coconut and lemon grass is the bomb. Delicious pumpkin and chicken with rice. Breaded fried shrimp is killer. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant
