This is a casual Japanese restaurant run by Taiwanese owners.
The interior was very clean, and I especially liked the large windows with a view of the bridge.
One thing to note: this isn’t the kind of place where you see the chef preparing sushi behind the counter.
Instead, it’s more like a budget conveyor belt sushi spot, where rice is shaped by machine and topped with fish.
That style doesn’t suit my personal taste, but I’m sharing this for those who might find it helpful.
A unique feature is that you can order Xia Long Bao alongside ramen—thanks to the Taiwanese influence.
The Xia Long Bao was excellent and highly recommended.
The ramen was decent, but it was served in a plastic bowl, and the broth temperature was too low, cooling off quickly.
The sushi rice was excellent, but the tuna on top was disappointingly frozen—it sat stiffly on the rice, which was a letdown.
If you’re expecting the sushi to look like the photos on the wall, you’ll likely be disappointed. Keep that in mind. The eel sushi roll was absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend it.

We had a fantastic time at this restaurant. The service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and professional. The quality of the fish was exceptional: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the difference. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Great value, great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

I’ve been coming to Soon Yi since the second week they were open. The fish is so fresh and everything I’ve tried, I have enjoyed. I love getting a seafood miso, a roll and a few pieces to enjoy. I always have to get some scallops. The seasonal options this spring are delicious. I recommend checking this restaurant out. They have so many options now.

Well, I’m still searching for the best Ramen on the coast, but the broth was the best so far. Pork belly had great flavor just not warm…I get it you can’t cook a fresh batch everyday when sushi is the specialty. You could leave the imitation crab out doesn’t add anything. I really missed not having a soft boiled egg and seaweed. Probably Americanized on purpose, but I love real Ramen. All in all not bad…still searching. I will say my server was excellent and very attentive I didn’t catch her name which I usually try to do. All the tables showed up at the same time and she handled it like a boss!

I feel google images do not do this place justice. Inside is SO CUTE. The staff was super friendly, and their sushi/sashimi boxes are such great sample sets, the platters looked amazing if you got a bigger group, staff is knowledgeable on what they serve, and it is definitely worth it and a fair price too! Definitely will be going back to dine in and enjoy some sake next time with my food.
ALSO! There is parking behind the building, i didnt see it driving by but found it when I went there. Super easy to get in and out of.

I was really excited about this based off all the recent reviews. Sadly, it seems I got them on an off night. The fish just didn’t scream fresh, and I’ve eaten a lot of fish. It was almost watery like it wasn’t thawed properly. And the salmon, on top of being watery, was basically white. It almost looked cooked. It was not appetizing nor tasty. I will also say for the rolls, it’s a lot of rice and a tiny amount of fish. I appreciate them keeping prices affordable, but this was not the solution.

The scallop and eel is absolutely amazing! As a seaweed role or regular.
I get a small dish of eel sauce and spicy mayo to go with it and it’s wonderful. Best I’ve had in a long time.
Very friendly staff, Washington and Columbia River view, easy to get to, great prices. Definitely recommended and will be back!

LaTajah Bridges
If I could rate this place 10 stars I most definitely would. The atmosphere was so calming and inviting, the staff were extremely sweet (shoutout to eugene ️!!), helpful, and informative when curious about meal options. As a picky eater, I thought I was not a fan of sashimi/nigiri until I came here and now I can’t get enough. I will definitely be coming back to astoria more frequently just for this specific restaurant. Highly recommend salmon carpaccio, the taste is addicting!! Thank you so much Soon Yi Sushi. 😀

This was a nice surprise. The food was delicious and portions generous. Fish was fresh and delicious. The location has obviously been repurposed and I wouldn’t call it romantic, but someone made a solid effort to pretty the place up. Service was fast and there was no wait time on weekdays evening.
