The sweet tea is the best. Baked beans are tasty as usual. I asked for sliced brisket sandwich for it being lean, which is supposed to be the most lean option, but when my sandwich came out, 25% of it or more was pure fat. I show the fat amount to my server who also agreed it was way too much, said sorry about that and then walked away. Sonny Tillman would be embarrassed. I am realizing that I leave Sonny’s disappointed more often than I am pleased. They do have the best sweet tea, sweet sauce, and baked beans and Cole slaw so maybe in the future I should just get a veggie platter, or find another bbq place. As a 40+ year customer, I hesitate but tired of being disappointed. The ones who prepare the meats just must have lower standards of quality.

Service was very good. We had a new waiter who was a little over attentive, kind of rushing us. But the food was exactly what I expected from Sonnys. The store was pretty clean. It was quiet and slow for the night. Im always grateful for a cheap but generous meal outside. SONNY HITS the spot.

I’m absolutely disgusted with my experience at Sonny’s BBQ on Archer Road. I spent over $60 on my order, and my chopped brisket sandwich was completely inedible — every single piece was pure fat, not a single bite of actual meat. It was greasy, slimy, and impossible to eat.
For a restaurant that claims to specialize in BBQ, this was unacceptable. Between the poor quality and the waste of money, I won’t be returning — and I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone.
Save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere that actually cares about the food they serve.

I had the best dinner tonight! The take out team was very friendly and was moving quickly to make sure my order came out fast! The ribs, sent from the good lord above! And nothing beats their barbecue sauces. Definitely would recommend for a quick lunch or family dinner. Best in town!

I was so excited to order takeout from here being that I was in town for Thanksgiving. I ordered the dry rub wings and they gave me old wings!! The wings were so old and dry that the seasoning didn’t even take. I’m so upset that I spent my money here to get served bad food.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good BBQ?! While I was visiting Gainesville for school, I stopped by this place a Saturday afternoon. I liked the décor and ambience of Sonny’s BBQ giving you a warmth and chill sensation. Like a good BBQ place anywhere in Texas.
My wife and I ordered to share. We wanted to try as much meats as possible so we went with the “Pick of the Pit Combos” and selected the 4 meats for $19.99. We choose Baby Back Ribs, Beef Brisket (these 2 with an additional charge but worth it), Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage and Smoked Wings. As a side we went with the baked sweet potato and Cole slow.
Let me start with the outstanding Beef Brisket, while my wife found it overcooked, I think it was tender and juicy. The baby back ribs came well seasoned and I was able to easily take the meat out of the bone. What I wouldn’t repeat next time, is the Chicken Wings because they were dried. I had to use extra sauce to add some moisture. Finally the Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage was also OK.
To top it off, we ordered a Banana Pudding. Nothing fancy but it closed the sweet deal at the end.
I will be visiting Gainesville every 2-3 weeks. Sonny’s BBQ will definitely be in my list of places to have lunch or dinner.

Ordered the Pick Of The Pit Combo (4 Meats) from drive through, with all beef brisket (extra $3.00 for brisket). Received the brisket with at least 75% fat (see pics). To top it off, they forgot one of the sides, and I had to go back in. I like some fat with a brisket, but the amount in there was deliberately added with so much fat that it was inedible. Never ordering from here again. Bait and switch scammers.

So I ordered delivery, as usual! I got some wings some pulled pork and some pulled chicken. Never was a big fan of Sonny’s only because I had one bad experience. So I said screw it. I wanted some barbecue and I gave it a second shot! The crappy thing was that it took an hour and a half for GrubHub to deliver my food so it was cold! That was not Sonny’s fault! So I heated it up and it actually was really freaking good! I loved the garlic bread, the baked beans were delicious and after reheating them tater tots, they were also good! I love their barbecue sauce too! Glad I gave them a second try and I’ll definitely be ordering again, but I’ll probably go pick it up lol. Check out my video and pictures 🙂
