I around 11:40pm per the doordash order and received no response through the drive through speaker. I announced several times I was a doordash driver. After some time had passed I pulled forward to the drive through window and could see an order taped and labeled with two drinks sitting on the counter by the window. The drinks matched the description of the order I was there to pick up. There was another order on the counter as well. I took photos of these items from my car. I beeped my car horn obnoxiously several times. I circled the store once and tried again. An additional DoorDash driver arrived not too long after me. This driver pulled over to the front door and from the drive through window I could see that he had entered the building. So I followed suit. We could hear water running as if someone was washing dishes. I announced ourselves several more times before an obviously agitated gentlemen stepped from around the corner and informed us they were closed. To which I informed him I had arrived 20 minutes prior and had been trying to get their attention. I expressed that I saw the doordash order on the counter to which he explained it was for a different doordash order. However he never asked whom I was picking up for to confirm the order. He simply expressed that I arrived after the cut off time. To which I asked why he couldn’t have communicated that when I arrived. He walked away clearly no longer wanting to engage. I’m very frustrated because I missed out on a large payment due to the negligence of this employe who had not properly close up the store indicating that it was closed. Nor did he address the situation in a timely manner. I wasted over 20 minutes that I could have spent traveling to a different restaurant to fullfill a different order. This is experience was very unprofessional as DoorDash is partnered with Sonic to ensure the satisfaction of the customers. The employee’s behavior is unbecoming, entitled and quite frankly raises the question to how often he feels comfortable dismissing costumers and inconveniencing other DoorDash employees simply to close early. It is also very concerning that this employee felt comfortable to no only close early but evidently leave the doors unlocked as this could have lead to a more dangerous and potentially criminal incident. This employee seemed to be alone in the store. It is Sonic’s responsibility to ensure their employees safety as well as capacity to complete their job. This particular location clearly needs more employees to support the work load and provide a more positive environment. If Sonic is unable to pay enough staff to work these late evening shifts then a revaluation of the store hours of operation should be put into consideration.
The chocolate shake barely had any chocolate flavor. It tasted more like plain vanilla ice cream with a tiny bit of syrup at the bottom (picture attached). Definitely not the rich, creamy shake I was expecting.
The Reese’s Blast wasn’t much better. The mix-ins were clumped together instead of blended, leaving big chunks in plain ice cream (see photo). It felt like very little effort went into making it.
I also spent about 20 minutes in the drive thru from the time I arrived until the time I got my order (there was only one car ahead of me).
Overall, not worth the price. I usually enjoy Sonic, but this order really missed the mark.
Update: My family picked up lunch there today despite my warnings. It was just little piles of trash in sonic boxes. I’ve tried reaching out to the helpline on the comment they left but it is just bots.
It is difficult to grasp how management has not recognized just how blatantly inefficiently run this location is and why they haven’t taken steps to rectify it is beyond me. I don’t work in the industry and even I have identified multiple opportunities for customer satisfaction/efficiency improvements. Most of my visits are at night so perhaps that is the only weak spot but no matter what time I go, this consistently happens:
1- when you pull up to the ordering speaker, it takes between two and five minutes for a voice to initiate the interaction (every other fast food service place I’ve been to will at least say “hello, will be with you shortly”). I’m left wondering is the equipment broken? Are they open? Oh and sometimes they aren’t but leave their lights on so I’m stuck waiting.
2- there is always a looong wait in line after ordering to get to the front window (even if there is only 1-2 cars in front of you); In fact, I am writing this review while waiting in line right now!
3- when arriving at the front window, it again takes multiple minutes before somebody opens the window to begin the payment transaction. What is mind blowing is there’s always 3 to 4 workers standing around within eyesight of the window, usually talking and not visibly working on something else. Real bad optics: even if they are working, one of them can’t take 10 seconds to open the window and say “give us a moment” or at least grab my credit card to start the process?
4- 35-40% of the time they either state their ice cream machine is not working or the only person who can operate it went home. Where are the signs so I don’t have to wait there to just get a disappointed response?
Most of the workers themselves are friendly. The issue is that the store is just not run efficiently. I’m just surprised this has been allowed to continue for so many years.
I highly suggest a district manager observe this location at night. It won’t be hard for them to identify areas of improvement opportunity.
