I ordered the S.O.B. Deluxe double with fries. My wife had the same burger, but as a single. The fries were out of a bag, but they were cooked perfectly and seasoned extremely well. They are served with S.O.B. sauce, a typical fry sauce made with ketchup, mayo, and a few spices. They had a great crispy crunch and were pillowy on the inside. The bun was fresh, a typical hamburger bun out of a bag. The veggies were fresh and crispy, but they were a little thin to hold up to the burger. The pickles are sweet pickles instead of dill, giving them a unique taste with a burger. The cheese melted well and was added to the burger, giving it some much-needed salt. The two 1/4lb burgers were smashed well and had a good crust. The beef flavor was pleasant, but it was light on seasoning for my taste. The S.O.B. sauce added a little extra sweetness to the burger, but it could have used more to amp up the beef’s flavor.
Son of a Burger offers a small menu featuring 10 burgers with loads of toppings, including a vegetarian black bean burger. They have a couple of appetizers, and the sides are classic burger fare: fries, onion rings, or slaw. They offer water and sodas, but there is a full bar in the same space if you would like beer or other alcohol. The Fat Man says that Son of a Burger is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.
Like Wing KYng Son of a Burger has a deceptively simple menu only a few items but with endless options to customize your order. Orders are delivered quickly giving you just enough time to grab a beer across the room at Old North.
Menu Highlight: The SMUSH burger.
I stopped in at The Old North Bar for a drink. The atmosphere in here is great. It wasn’t busy at all. Son of Burger is located inside the Old North Bar dining area.
I walked up to the counter, no other customers were there. There was one worker who didn’t acknowledge us. We then realized that the monitors on the counter were for self serve ordering. Ok, we can do that. If a customer looks a bit confused maybe the employee should say something like “hello, how are you? Here’s the process…”
Ordered a burger and was given a number. The food was just placed on the counter. I eventually figured that out and went up to get it myself. This also left me wondering what the tip was for.
The burger was missing one of the toppings (again, nothing was said by the employee). The beef patty was thin and a little burned. The bun was nothing special and fell apart before the burner could be finished. Parts of the burger were cold.
Overall, bad experience. Let’s see how long this place lasts.
Orders were wrong and we didn’t notice until we’re were opening the bags and driving.
-No mozzarella sticks
-deluxe SOB only had grilled onions and cheese. No sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, or pickles
-fries and onion rings were cold
-all 3 burgers were were warm, but absolutely not fresh.
We live down the street and this is the first bad experience, but it was really bad. The person working was not doing well by herself.
