Reviews
The food being served is not bad per say, flavor is good; however, I would not call it authentic. Compared to Chueys, El Paso (across the street), or Pedro’s, I would say this is streamlined tex-mex. Again, we did not get horribly tasting food, but it’s just not mexican. The tamale we got, pictured below, was $4, and about the thickness of two fingers. I have gotten homemade tomales tripple the size for $3.50. Not only does the price not compare but neither does the taste. My husband got a burrito and I got enchiladas, and we both rate both plates a 6.5/10. In both plates, the flavor was good, just not authentic or anything to rave about that would get us to come back. I could get authentic mexican food at Papa Loca for half the price we paid here.
Again the service is excellent. The best service we have recieved lately compared to any other restaurant because the attention they give you is genuine and delightful. Our server gave us insights, answered questions we had about food and she was very helpful. The atmosphere is great too, no complaints there.
I would not return for the food, but I would return for the service and the queso dip because that was the only star of the show in our overall course.
From the reviews, but it was still good. I would try something else next visit. I will return, for sure.
We had mixed enchiladas and tamales- both excellent choices. If you’re particular about your beef, definitely try theirs- farmed from a private local supplier with exclusive access! Thanks to Tommy, one of the partners, we sampled a bit and are eager to return for a full course! We finished with hot apple pie (give it a second to cool…you have been warned), and yes it was divinely covered in a homemade butter glaze and ice cream….highly recommended!!
Please note that they have just recently opened and some staff are just getting into the workforce, so give them a break and work with them (not against) to make sure this place becomes a local favorite!
Stopped in for a quick bite during the grand opening and was seriously impressed. The fajitas were amazing and full of flavor and absolutely deserving of the hype. The bar setup was insane for a fast casual spot: quick service, fast food speed, but restaurant quality taste. Everything came out hot and delicious.
The chips were phenomenal, easily some of the best I’ve had. Huge shout-out to the bartender, who absolutely crushed it while deep in the weeds, great attitude, great service, and kept everything moving smoothly.
Five stars all around. Sombrero’s is off to a strong start in Lafayette.
Good experience with the Triston, who serve us with utmost hospitality.
Don’t forget to try the desert hot chocolate fudge & homemade flan – memorable.
