I had the most delicious dinner at SOL recently, located inside of the Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina hotel. Our group of 4 tried a variety of cocktails and food items, and everything was superb. Some highlights were the Pork Risotto, the Honey Walnut Shrimp, and the Beef Spare Ribs. On the lighter side, the Ahi Tuna Tartare was outstanding. The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious, with lots of natural light and great views of the ocean and harbor. We started with drinks on the outdoor patio, around a fire pit (so cozy), and then moved inside for dinner. I want to give a special shout-out as well to Juan, who was both our bartender and server for the evening. He made the BEST drinks and was just a delightful human all around. Next time you’re in the area, or if you’re staying at the hotel, I highly recommend giving this new restaurant a try!

Don’t let the exterior/how hard it is to find deter you. Sol is in the corner lot of the Sonesta hotel. It boasts superb service and food! Chef Hayato and Juan were amazing. Highly recommend the wonton soup, crane asada fries and pork risotto. Also ordering after 2 drinks and 6 dishes we barely got to $100, so prices were incredibly reasonable as well!

I had breakfast at Sol after staying overnight at the Sonesta. It was opened early to accommodate a feed before work. Service was quick and attentive. I made an omelette with mushrooms, spinach, and ham. Food was meh but it did the trick. More focused convenience than quality which worked for me as a business traveler.

An organization I’m a part of rented this place out for an event and to say I’m appalled is an understatement. The line for the women’s bathroom was extremely long, and there was no one in the men’s so a couple friends and I went into the men’s restroom. I understand if this is not appropriate and not allowed, but the reaction from the staff was truly disgusting. They immediately started cussing us out and saying racial slurs repeatedly. It made me so uncomfortable I was brought to tears. Obviously, I am happy to comply with rules given by staff, but when they are portrayed in such an ugly manner I’m left with no choice but to leave a review like this. It’s 2025. Do better.

We had the opportunity to dine here this evening and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Blanca is an amazing waitress and an even better bartender. You have to try her margaritas. The Chef’s menu is delicious. Husband and I had a great time and enjoyed our food and drinks. Thank you Blanca for that great conversation. We both will miss you and thank you to the chef and Juan and the staff we met. Everyone was so kind!

I tried to eat here for dinner tonight. I even made a reservation via Open Table. I checked into the hotel and asked where the restaurant was. I was told it closed a month ago by the guest services staff. I guess it’s still an option for breakfast. Open Table needs to update their reservation system. It was also ironic that the hotel elevators still have signage for dinner at Sol. I wonder if Open Table will ask me for a review?

Juan is the best bartender and server. He made us the most delicious and inventive cocktails, each one was 10/10. We enjoyed food and drinks many times over our weekend trip, and would have gone back if we had more time. Thank you, Juan!

To Management: I was there for breakfast September 21st and 22nd, 2022. An older, heavy set, tall Hispanic male whose name I think was Luis (per the receipt) was serving tables including mine. He did a fantastic job with all the tables he was working. I was observing him and noticed he always used very polite language and had a very friendly and inviting demeanor. He was nice even when some customers were rude to him. He also was very efficient at taking care of the very busy dinning room. This is my way of thanking him for his service.
To other customers: I felt this restaurant serves a nice breakfast judging by US-Hotel Standards. Please don’t expect a European-styled hotel breakfast for a low-price while you’re staying in US hotels, especially in California. The price may be high but at least the breakfast here is above the level of most cheap continental breakfasts in other US hotels. I enjoyed 2 different kinds of scrambled eggs, sausage, Orange juice, strawberries, breads, a muffin and coffee (both drip and espresso). You can also get a custom made omelette or eggs your way, cereal and other breakfast goodies like jams etc. So I feel this place is a good choice!

Hotel Breakfast Buffet. Almost $30 per person. Absolutely unreal price for a really very average buffet. Most items were luke warm, a very limited selection, stale pastry. There were no bowls available anywhere for cereal/oatmeal.
One of the most expensive meals we had during our trip. Really unimpressed. We’d return to the hotel but skip the breakfast every time.

The food and service are fine. The business itself is quite shady. They give you one price on the menu, say $29. Then, when you go to pay they slap a $2 “service charge”. This charge is NOT a tip, (although people probably see it and tip less). It goes directly to the business owner.
Here is an idea, if you need to raise prices, just raise prices. Stop scamming your customers and de facto stealing tips from your hardworking employees.
