The mint green building gives you a vibrant vibe. My wife and I have been wanting to eat here for at least 10 years! So we were doing errands around the area and decided to pop in from brunch. First impression inside is relaxing and has a cool tropical aesthetic. There are these cool doors that look directly brought over from Old San Juan. The menu is huuuuuge with lots of tasty sounding dishes. I decided on the PR Hash which is picadillo and rice covered with melted cheese then two fried eggs on top. I got a side of sweet plantain. I had coconut water to wash it all down. My wife got the tostones ,cheese, black beans, avocado and a fried on top. She loved that! She got this coconut coffee beverage as well. Service was fine. The atmosphere was not rushed but relaxed. I will come here again for sure.

First time trying this popular spot and it was delicious! Did not disappoint. Kind and courteous service by staff. The tacos were sooo packed with flavour and protein, sour cream, spicy guacamole, queso fresco, and red sauce!

If you are craving Caribbean food this is the place to go if you are in the Bay Area. The food feels very authentic and delicious. I had the chuletas with rice and beans and I felt like I was eating at home. The tostones are also great and their lemonades and juices are very refreshing. I highly recommend trying out the tradicional Puerto Rican dishes in the menu like the mofongo and chuletas! The pineapple pudding we had for dessert was also great.

Excellent Puerto Rican food. We were welcomed by Alex who spent time to explain the menu to us. She recommended, “Bistec Encebollado” with plantain and black beans, which is what I ordered. It was amazingly tasty. Alex also recommended “Pollo al Horno” my daughter ordered it and that also was very tasty. Since it was our first time at Sol Food (and we live a very long distance from San Rafael,) Alex brought us Coconut flan with mango sauce. That too was very delicious. Sol food is definitely a must stop! Enjoy authentic Puerto Rican food and experience the culture.

Overall good, but my complaint would have to be the flavor is missing and the Mofongo wasn’t the same as the one I ate in Puerto Rico. It was odd to have a half an avocado with it. Pique was good!

Great comfort food..plaintains are the hero here..the green plaintain dish mofongo had such a pleasant garlic punch…and the maduros as usual are always good..the chicken salad was fresh.

Delicious food, the bistec sandwich was flavorful! The aguas frescas were also tasty. Staff was friendly and attentive. Seating space is limited, so depending on the group size, it can be a wait to be seated. Can also get loud at times.

My favorite spot to grab food when in San Rafael. My go to is the Coconut Milk French Toast (Pan Frances) and Ponche. On my last visit we had the Mariquitas as well – they were divine and go beautifully with the special mayonnaise.
For future patrons, the spot does get crowded during the lunch hour. Best time to go is closer to opening to ensure you have a more relaxed time, but the lunch hour is definitely livelier and energetic. Customers are required to order before sitting down, so I highly recommend taking a look at the menu well in advance to have a sense of what you’ll be ordering. The menu is VERY LONG so it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Staff are kind and helpful.
Excited to visit again next time I’m in the Marin area or headed to Point Reyes.

This place is amazing! The sandwiches, especially the bistec and cubano, are the most famous items, but the main dishes also shine in this restaurant. The portions are generous, and the drinks are very tropical and fun. They don’t serve alcohol, but it’s not needed because the food itself is the main highlight here. I loved the gluten-free option for the sandwich; it was a clever twist, rather than using bread, they serve the sandwich between two tostones. I would rate it a 10/10!
