The complimentary bean dip, salsa and chips were delicious. I don’t know what they did to their bean dip but it was gone so fast!!
Our server George was awesome! Stayed on top or our drinks, and checking to see if our food was cooked to order!
I recently had a bariatric weight loss surgery and have a medical card from my Dr. George let me order of the kids menu.
I got 2 tacos with rice and beans and was only able to eat one taco, a few bites of rice and a couple bites of bean. The tacos where seasons to perfection, refried beans were like the bean dip, amazing!! The rice was super moist and not dry like a lot of Hispanic rice you get at restaurants. I believe they use jasmine rice. The rice was still nice and moist the next day for lunch!!
You have to get a butter cake, you will then know why it’s been best of state for the last 3 years running!!!!!!!
The free chips and salsa/refried beans were excellent. Our server was nice and friendly. However we ordered some drinks and got the wrong order we waited quite a long time so we kept the margaritas. They were house margaritas that we were charged $15 for. I believe it should be closer to an $8 marg. There was nothing special about it.
We ordered the sugar cane filet and a wagyu enchilada dish, mar something was the name. I understand that we came at a busy time on a Friday night, but it took a while to get our dishes. The. The sugar cane filet tasted like it was cooked on a grill right after a hamburger was cooked on it. Flavor was not great at all. It also came out cold and overcooked. We would have sent it back, but our server didn’t come back to check on us for 15 to 20 minutes and at that time we were coming up on an event we needed to get to so we had a couple of bites of it then boxed it up to take home to our dogs. The other dish was better.
We may need to try brunch or some different dishes next time. I’d avoid the busier times is my recommendation.
The calamari is some of the best you’ll find in SLC. The drinks were great. The sugar cane filet was delicious and beautifully presented.
The butter cake is the best dessert I’ve ever had! I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. I have been thinking about it ever since!
She was hilarious, super personable, and made us feel like we were being taken care of by family. We instantly connected — lots of laughs, great recommendations, and she kept the good vibes going all night. She was attentive without hovering and made sure everything came out perfect.
If you go to Sol Agave, do yourself a favor and ask for Dayanara. Great food is one thing, but service like hers is what makes a night memorable. We’ll definitely be back!
We started with chips and fresh salsa — so flavorful! The brunch cocktails were refreshing and well-made, and the huevos ranchero and chilaquiles we ordered were absolutely delicious — perfectly seasoned, generous portions, and beautifully presented. The flavors were bold without being overwhelming, and everything was cooked to perfection.
What really stood out was how genuinely kind and thoughtful the staff was — from checking in on us to making great recommendations. It felt like we were treated as guests rather than customers.
This was one of our best brunch experiences in a long time. Sol Agave is a must-visit, and we can’t wait to come back!
Make sure you get the butter cake!!
* Make sure to order the Butter Cake for dessert – more details at the end of review *
While it reasonably busy when we arrived just before 6pm, it was a packed venue by around 7:30pm. Now we know why!
Our waiter Jorge R (I think it was George on his name tag) was attentive, funny, and knowledgeable about the food. He was one of the best waiters I have EVER had serve me. It was the right mix of attentiveness with refilling drinks, checking on our enjoyment, making recommendations, sharing a few jokes, and answering questions about a few menu items.
Appetizer – Choriqueso Flamedo
The cheese was melted to perfection with a small amount of chorizo and guacamole. Yum yum goodness to pair with the tortilla chips. The chips were nicely seasoned with a larger flake crunchy salt that have had a lime or other seasoning. Whatever the salt/seasoning, we asked for extra chips as we ate the baset of them – twice!
Short-Rib Plate (Birria) – Fantastic and would order again!
It was simply amazing with both texture and flavor profile. The meat was fall apart on your fork magic and the consume was on point. The mini corn tortillas were also very good delivery vehicles for the star of the show – the short rib! It was topped by a strange looking root vegetable that the waiter told us was Chinese Radish.
Mar Y Tierra – Filet Mignon sauteed with roasted onions & peppers with a creamy sherry wine sauce topped with wild prawns. My wife really enjoyed it. Being honest, I did not love the sauce on the enchilada, but I do not normally like enchilada or most wine sauces. Strangely enough I did like the sauce more as a salad dressing when eating the on-plate salad that came with the main dish. It was not a bad dish, but not one I would personally order again as I saw many other menu items that I would likely enjoy more.
The Pina Colada drink looked very pretty in a pineapple style serving mug and had pretty garnish. We ordered it as non-alcoholic and felt it was sweeter than we like, albeit it was a good flavor. We would not order again but think many people would enjoy it.
Dessert – Butter Cake
Recommended by our server – it surpassed already high expectations.
You need to order this. Large enough for 2 to share.
It was a mix of ice cream on top with a slightly crunchy and butter crumb cake (like the topping of apple crisp). Served with a cinnamon butter and fresh fruit (Raspberry and Blackberry). This was the kind of dessert where you take the first bite, pause, the world slows down and becomes quiet as you experience pure bliss. It was seriously that good! Likely my favorite dessert that I can think of in recent memory.
