Review: Social Restaurant & Oyster Bar in McLean

We discovered a tiny, tiny pearl in one of the fried oysters. I checked it between my teeth, though I wasn’t sure what to feel for.

As soon as I walked into this restaurant I fell in love with it. The decor was as beautiful as the dishes were and that is saying something. The seafood was so fresh, I even enjoyed the oysters (a dish I usually do not eat, let alone enjoy). Chef Jeffs unique recipes were delicious, and the wine pairings they set up for us with our menu tasting were PERFECT, I especially enjoyed the sparkling wine with our appetizers. I’d recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a different and delicious take on traditional seafood and steak dishes.

The food was AWESOME, nice ambiance and the waitstaff was great. Chef Jeff has come up with a very unique menu and everything on it is delicious. The octopus chips were really good and the steak served on a bone with the marrow still inside was excellent, plus after we finished, the staff had no problem boxing up the bone for us to take home for the dog! I will definitely be back.

Let me preface this review by saying I’m a Maryland native and I’m very picky about seafood, especially oysters. This place absolutely knocked my socks off. We got a dozen oysters as a starter (they were half priced on Sundays, I think a couple other days have the same deal) and they were immaculate. Very meaty, perfectly shucked. Of the dozen, only 1 of them had residual shell chips in it, which to me shows great care for the customer experience. I had the seared tuna entree and it was cooked perfectly. I wasn’t even that hungry but I kept eating until the food was gone because everything was just so good! My boyfriend got the bouillabaisse and it came with so many scallops, clams, mussels, shrimp and fish…very meaty. They definitely don’t skimp at this place. Had the beignets for dessert and they were divine…whipped cream topped with granola, round beignets with honey and less powdered sugar than I expected, but the hot fried dough on top of the whipped cream was an amazing combination. The service was also absolutely excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable about the entire menu (which changes, so the one you see online might not be the current menu) and provided recommendations even as to the tastes of the 6 different oysters they were offering. Overall amazing experience, I hope this little place makes it! I can definitely see it becoming our new special celebration restaurant, which used to be Founding Farmers, but that place is getting crazy and loud, therefore less fun for us. This place is slightly more expensive but the experience will blow you away!

Here. Go. Tonight.
Everything about it. Loved it all. The small boutique ambiance with music accompaniment to the knowledgeable trendy (in a good way) service. The finely curated selection of drinks, the menu from oysters to starters to main dishes to the crepe cake dessert. I don’t take food pictures often; I took some of pretty much every moment because the displays were elegant and memorable. High, high recommendation. Price is worth it.

In all fairness, I can’t say anything about the food because I barely made it through a drink because the place smells. I’ve been to plenty of seafood restaurants. I wonder if the stench is related to the small space: seafood + confined quarters = smells of towels long overdue for a wash
Staff seem friendly and nice.
