SUCH A GEM!!! My husband and I came into town for vacation and decided to have dinner at this lovely restaurant. We were so glad we did. The experience was nothing short of perfection!
Satoru, Chef Christina, and Kibur were so gracious and kind. We felt so special sitting at the chef’s counter, sipping on our sake flight, observing the chef prepare every dish, and tasting the delicious food!
We LOVED the pace of how the dishes came out. We had time to chat, while enjoying our drinks and food.
The sake we ordered were Yuri, Jozen, Gunma, and Tochigi 14.
The dishes we ordered were miso soups, wasabi eggs tamago, tuna tataki, spicy salmon taco-maki, and yellow roll.
Please keep in mind there is only ONE chef who is preparing your dishes. She is phenomenal and very efficient. However, one person means one set of hands.
They have a great system going and you will never feel neglected. Chef Christina worked diligently to prepare all the wonderful dishes. Her husband Satoru checked on everyone very frequently to make sure every table has everything they need, while Kibur keeps everyone’s water and drinks refilled and table cleaned.
This place is such a gem and we will definitely return. Highly recommend!!

This was one the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had! The host was warm and generous and started the night by offering a warm floral scented towel. Then the real joy began. The food was incredible! Every plate was better than the last and all were perfectly seasoned and gorgeously plated. We live in SF but this tops anything we’ve had in the city. Don’t come expecting a cookie cutter sushi experience. This is far better.

Delicious food from a very talented chef. This is a small family run business, so you shouldn’t be in a rush, but the wait is well worth it. The menu changes and is compact so I would recommend trying it all if you get the chance.

My husband and I love Sobo. Chef Christina is a gem! She only sources the freshest, best ingredients. From fish to wasabi and everything in between. Delicious! If you like sushi, you’ll love Sobo.

Unique and full of flavor. Surprising combinations of tastes. Lightly cooked fish on rice was an interesting twist vs traditional sushi. Wonderful hosts in a cozy spot.

What an awesome addition to a super cute (but sleepy) town. Truly reminds me of an authentic Japanese Izakaya but in wine country. Like dining at somehow’s country house. Awesome husband and wife team cooking up their favorite Japanese dishes, with a Cali twist. Satoro is one of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve ever met. Then you get the deviled eggs, torched salmon, and not to forget the tuna tataki which was light and fresh and awesome. And I don’t know what Chef does to that short rib but it’s so tender, simple and delicious. The miso cod as well, Nobuesque! Looking forward to coming back next trip into Boonville! Thank you guys!

Great food, and very kind staff. The atmosphere is inviting and intimate, it is the perfect mix of a casual local spot and an elegant restaurant. I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time to ensure you get a table, it is not hard to get a last minute reservation. The food can take a while because there is only one chef but it is well worth the wait.

This is already a treasured local restaurant in our small town. Hubby and I are originally from the Bay Area where there’s a ton of great Japanese food for all budgets. This absolutely holds its weight against any of them, plus has the wonderful chef’s own special creativity. The sake recommendations are outstanding. One tip is that they really take the time to prepare each dish with care so it’s a fairly leisurely experience. Budget in time, knowing that it’s well worth it.

My girlfriend literally cried when she had the seared salmon roll. By literally, I mean that I personally witnessed a tear roll down her left cheek followed by the statement, “I’ve never tasted anything so good it made me cry”.

What a gem. The chef and waiter, a wife and husband team, put all their care into not just the food, but the overall experience. We can’t wait to return.
