We ordered the three meat platter and added a second side because we love good sides! The brisket is juicy, falls apart and has the perfect bark. The pork belly is also tender and juicy and pairs great with the barbecue sauce! Our favorite and we see why it’s the fan favorite was the Oaxacan cheese and poblano pepper sausage – it’s cheesy, juicy, tender and the poblanos give it flavor without too much kick.
Now to the sides! We got the pasta salad which was our favorite! Pro tip – add some of the avocado cream to your pasta salad. The pork belly fried rice was tasty too!
Highly recommend trying Smoky Buns and supporting a small business!
Can’t say it enough how great everything was from start to finish. Got the main squeeeze which was 4 meats and 2 sides for $40 absolutely worth every penny
Sticky Buns is a tucked-away BBQ food truck in a residential neighborhood, but once you find it, access is easy and the setting is inviting with covered picnic table seating if you choose to dine on-site.
I tried the 2-meat plate (chef’s choice) and added the pork belly fried rice. I received brisket and ribs—both were tender, though slightly dry for my personal taste. The pork belly fried rice had decent flavor, but the meat pieces were so small they tasted more like ham than pork belly, which left me wanting a bit more from that dish.
On the bright side, the potato salad was creamy and well-seasoned, and I really enjoyed the avocado crema—it added a fresh, unique touch to the plate.
Overall, Sticky Buns has a great local vibe and potential. With a few tweaks, it could easily become a go-to spot for BBQ lovers in the area.
The brisket was a standout—perfectly smoked and seasoned with just salt and pepper, as owner Jesse proudly shared. It’s a classic done right, and easily one of the best we’ve had.
The pork belly was rich and flavorful, and the ribs (my wife’s favorite) were gone in minutes—they didn’t stand a chance! I didn’t get to try the chicken (I was too full), but my wife said it tasted like a rodeo turkey leg—smoky, juicy, and delicious.
We were hoping to try the Poblano Oaxaca cheese sausage, but it was sold out. Luckily, the house sausage we did get was fantastic. If that was the backup, I can only imagine how good the signature sausage must be.
Jesse described his BBQ as “Familiar but Different,” and I couldn’t agree more. It’s traditional Texas oak-smoked BBQ with a creative twist that makes it unforgettable.
Highly recommend Smokey Buns to anyone who loves bold, authentic BBQ. We’ll definitely be back!
Thanks for the hospitality and great food!
