I’d been wanting to try The Smoaking Goat for a long time, and we finally took the opportunity when some friends came to visit. It was absolutely worth the wait!

First, I have to mention the great service. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and friendly. We couldn’t decide between 2 white wines, and she kindly brought us a glass of each to taste before choosing, such a thoughtful gesture! We ended up going with the 2023 Portuguese white, Intervalo Branco.

We decided to share several dishes between the five of us, and ordered:
Fried Chicken, Tom Yum and Pork, Massaman Bavette, Pad Phet Trout and Courgette, Squid and Salted Duck Egg with Courgette, Cabbage and Mushroom Soy Sauce, Daikon Som Tam, three House Rotis, Jasmine Rice, and BBQ Turmeric Gurnard.

The only dish I wouldn’t particularly recommend was the Cabbage and Mushroom Soy Sauce.
Everything else was fantastic!

My top recommendations would be the BBQ Turmeric Gurnard, the Squid and Salted Duck Egg with Courgette, and especially the Massaman Bavette, which was the standout dish.

The service was great, the food was amazing, and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The open kitchen is a nice touch too – you can watch the chefs at work while you eat (if that’s your thing)

Highly recommended!

I’d recommend coming here for a drink and the chicken wings (lives up to the hype, has been on my list for years!) – crispy, salty, sweet – they balanced the flavours in such a unique way. And good value as the wings are so large (2 wings would be a meal for one person). However – the other dish we ordered was really bad imo (stir fried squid and salted duck egg). Mushy texture, over salted – and overpriced imo. So definitely worth a visit for the vibe, drinks, location and wings, but wouldn’t return for anything else tbh

Authentic street food from Bangkok. Tastes exactly like it does in Bangkok which is impressive as none of the chefs in the kitchen are Thai however they are flown there once a year to learn, the chicken wing was great however it is battered do it makes it heavy and calorific the crunch is perfect though and the sauce perfect. The fried chicken was 10/10 beautiful flavour moist perfectly cooked chicken awesome dipping sauce.
Service was fantastic and fizzy water was complimentary. Highly recommended from a private chef of 40 years and it was recommended to be by a Michelin Star ⭐ Chef.

Delicious fresh authentic Thai food. The chicken wings in a caramelised fish sauce are to die for and the langoustine curry full of lemongrass and heat. I love the atmosphere and sitting at the counter was fun. Waiting service was a bit slow but the amazing head chef saved us.

Great Thai bistro for a Friday night out. The fish source chicken is a must-have, surprisingly big for the price, the skin is so crispy and flavourful, and the meat is juicy and tender.
Love the freshly made roti, such a therapeutic thing to watch the dough is making in front of you, and all the food is made in the open kitchen.
The Tom Yum pork noodles is great but a bit overly salty for me.

Restaurant is a bit tight but good vibe, considering it’s in Shoreditch, that’s the vibe you would go for. Definitely will come back again for those chicken wings.

Top food in a lively atmosphere. We visited on NYE and there was definitely a party atmosphere. Staff were friendly and efficient + helpful with allergens. Food was excellent, the wing is worth the hype (is also massive) and the Massaman curry was fantastic. Only let down was the cabbage, just a bit dull. There was a warning on the menu about spice but nothing we had was particularly spicy. Would go again.

Couldn’t leave a better review! The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious, everything we had was a must try – especially the wings, beef massaman and the mackerel. We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen, was so lovely to see all the staff getting along so well and the kiwi chef was so friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Jack who gave us great recommendations and looked after us! Can’t wait to come back soon

Place did not disappoint. We had the cabbage, fried chicken, and pork with mama noodles. Chicken was tender, the cabbage was crispy and well-seasoned, and noodles was £14 but filling.
There were many choices of seating space so this place would work for many types occasions.
I want to especially shout out our server, Zeyn, for being so chill, friendly, and professional!

I had such an amazing experience. The food and drinks were honestly 10/10!!! Everything was flavourful, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. We sat at the bar, which made the whole evening even better. The bar staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely great at what they do.

They gave fantastic recommendations, made us feel really welcomed, and you could tell they’re passionate about their cocktails and service. The atmosphere was cozy yet energetic, and the whole place had such a good vibe.

I’d definitely come back again and would highly recommend to anyone looking for great drinks, delicious food, and outstanding service.

Nice, unique Thai food place in Shoreditch. If you are looking for something special, away from the classics you get at other Thai restaurants, this place is worth exploring.

The food was delicious. The fried chicken was very special. My only qualm is the menu doesn’t tell you exactly which dishes are spicy, just that most things are. Most dishes were pleasantly spicy but the noodles, although delicious, were fiery as hell!

I wish I had known that dish was the spiciest and had waited until the end hahah
