Connecticut is not widely recognized for its barbecue, making a restaurant like Smokin’ with Chris an unexpected, yet worthwhile, find. This establishment is a not-so-hidden culinary treasure that justifies a detour. A recent visit, prompted by a friend’s recommendation, confirmed that the quality of the sides is just as crucial as the main courses, which were all expertly prepared. The barbecue style leans toward the Kansas City tradition, featuring a slightly sweet finish from the addition of sauce. The menu highlights—including the tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, the savory brisket tips, and the expertly seasoned pulled pork—all impressed. Pricing is reasonable, and the beer selection is robust. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, making it an excellent venue for socializing with friends or enjoying a pint while watching a game.

From out of town and was looking for some BBQ. Saw the reviews and decided to visit. Let’s just say that the food did not live up to the hype. The ribs were on the tougher side ,the old bay chicken wings didn’t have enough seasoning , the collard greens were spicy , and the rib tips were hard and a little dry. Additionally, I asked for blue cheese and got something that looked like butter which was … different. We took everything to go but at the end of the day we just ended up just throwing everything out before we even got home. HOWEVER, the pork belly burnt ends were great, the Mac and cheese decent flavor good & The brisket queso was ok too.. but I don’t think I’d come back .

Well, we did not have any plan at the beginning to visit this place even we didnt know about that exists.

Due a plan change or were visiting a brewery and was closed at the time, we stopped here to take some appetizers on the meantime.

Since or arrival the personale there was amazing friendly. They asked us if was our first visit to explain the concept of the restaurant. The server was really responsitive with all our questions about the menu.

We ended order Brisket burn ends, baby back ribs, and different sides as beans, colslaw, colgreens and the traditional sweat smoke beans. The entire food was pretty good, I really like the ribs, theyre really tender and get of the bone without any effort.

They seriously take care about customer care, I believe that Manager/Owner approached after we ended our meals to ask about the food and service.

I do recommend visiting this place 100%

Tasty and comfort = 2 deliciously dangerous side effects of a great BBQ spot.
Cucumber salad was amazing and a mac & cheese with brisket or pulled pork wrap= comfort zone to the max…
What 1 factor separates food from being great food?

Answer = Flavor!

No, I am not talking about drowning food in sauces. Imagine tasting everything individually but having it all come together like an orchestra harmony.

Now add friendly customers, attentive service, clean environment, prompt food to table delivery and you have a blueprint for a memorable moment… And I didn’t even mention the music.

My family has been here several times over the years and it is always a delicious treat! My husband always gets the sloppy Chris because his name is Chris and he thinks it’s funny but also loves it, he got baked beans and fries for his side. My son got the brisket sandwich, fries, and onion rings and thought it was the best he ever had. I got the rib meat sandwich, Mac and cheese, and onion rings. Everything was so flavorful and delicious, not to mention incredibly filling. (And it costs less than mission BBQ, it has better flavor and you get more sides)

We went to Smokin’ on at 6:00 pm on Wednesday with a party of three and was seated immediately. Our party was served in a reasonable time and everyone enjoyed their dinner with the exception of the collard greens. According to the women who ordered them, the greens were a little too spicy for their taste so I ended up eating their portion. I felt some heat at the back of my throat, but it wasn’t bad and the flavor was pure Southern style homemade so thank you ladies! I had the Yabba with the “good” marbleized fat and I fell in love. In fact, I had to take half of it home it was that big (see photos).

We ordered the family package which came with pulled pork chicken baby back ribs spareribs Kabasa we got four sides were mac & cheese, coleslaw side salad french fries it came with three corn breads. We also ordered brisket burnt ends for starters I want to say for $14 they gave us four 1“ x 1“ cube Burnt ends, which was mostly fat very disgusting very little meat. A lot of money second I want to say the meat that we received the chicken wasn’t barbecued. There was skin on it that was all fatty like gross. No flavor. If it wasn’t for the cups of barbecue sauce, it would of been horrible. The pulled pork was very dry very dry. The baby back ribs were burnt and had no flavor but it did taste burnt because it was in the spareribs were dry no flavor. The Kabasa was even burnt and dry. Can you believe it? The mac & cheese was horrible. The noodles were overcooked and it’s like they just kept adding cheese through it making it like one big mess. It was horrible. The coleslaw taste like you’re eating a plastic container. I even said something to the owner and he got upset about it. The cornbread wasn’t bad. The french fries were OK. We paid a lot of money and I don’t think we got our moneys worth. I asked about their brisket if they slice it or if they just mash it and they said it’s chopped brisket, which is another way of saying it’s old it’s not fresh and we keep mixing it daily. This is not a place I would recommend.
