I finally got to try Smokin K’s BBQ & Cajun Cuisine in Marion, IL. First off, the gumbo was fantastic and the spice level was perfect.

Smokin’ K’s BBQ & Cajun Cuisine in Marion, Illinois absolutely delivers on authentic Southern and Cajun flavor. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place takes pride in doing things the right way.

I was told the beef brisket was the standout item—and it did NOT miss. Perfectly tender with a deep, smoky flavor, it truly needs no sauce. Adding anything would only take away from how well it’s prepared.

The dirty rice was another highlight, seasoned with just the right amount of spice and packed with that classic Cajun depth. The fried okra was a brilliant Southern touch—crispy, flavorful, and a great complement to the main dishes.

I also asked about the gumbo and they offered me a sample on the spot. That alone says a lot about their hospitality. It was fantastic—rich, balanced, and carrying the perfect amount of heat.

If you’re anywhere near Marion, do yourself a favor and stop at Smokin’ K’s. The food, the flavor, and the service make it genuinely worth the trip. Highly recommend!

I live in Springfield IL and don’t eat much BBQ, but I noticed that there are a lot of BBQ places in the area and I wanted to see what good BBQ taste like. This one was top rated so I wanted to check it out. Glad I did.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the loaded Texas tots. The pulled pork was incredibly flavorfull. It was really good. I’m glad I checked this place out. I loved the blues music playing and the general atmosphere.

I definitely want to go back and try out some other things.

The definition of Family style, Home cooked, Texas bred good ol fashion knock you in the mouth BBQ. If you have not yet experienced this restaurant you are genuinely doing yourself a disservice. This is a local specialty. Won’t find this in anyone’s franchise or chain style of restaurants. This food is prepared as it should, ol school, blood, sweat, tears and some good ol Texas SMOKE!… The owners, Husband Kenny and Wife Brandy run this little slice of heaven with their children and a few extra hands. It truly is a thing of beauty. Im Bias, but if you like Brisket. You WILL NOT find it made any better and this is right in your backyard if you live in So. ILL an not just passing through. An if you like a little KICK with you grub you gotta try that Gumbo and or that Dirty Rice. I mean hot fire !… Do yourself a favor, don’t drive by it. Stop in and grab a plate and see for yourself.

I wouldn’t recommend the dirty rice, however everything else is really good. Especially the brisket Mac n cheese. I’ve been here several times. They sell out fast and have limited seating.
You stand to order, you get your condiments and plastic ware and drinks, they bring the food.

Loved the music! Food was great. I had a bowl of Gumbo and my husband had the rib tips – best of both worlds – BBQ and Cajun.

BEST BBQ IN MARION! Atmosphere is laid back with blues music. Pulled pork sandwiches are amazing. Brisket is to die for! Brisket baked beans are addicting. Earlier the better, they will sell out.

Was bummed when the brisket platter was sold out. Got the chopped brisket sandwich which one chunk of brisket was very tough / chewy. Otherwise..food was well seasoned and tasty. One suggestion…better tracks of music; but loved the large TV. (A great fishing program happened to be on. WILL COME AGAIN.
One observation…signage on top of restaurant was not easily distinguishable until really close up.

My husband and I stopped for lunch while passing through Marion and would highly recommend Smokin K’s! Chopped brisket, fries, ribs, sweet tea and baked beans were amazing! Everything was very clean and tidy. Service was so friendly and made us out-of-towners feel welcome. Especially loved seeing employees/owners from the back do rounds out front and say hi to customers. Very local and family friendly feel!

This place is fantastic! This is not just another BBQ place. The food here is special. I especially have to rave about the brisket baked beans (THE best baked beans I’ve ever tasted!) and the banana pudding. Absolutely killer. And I love the bluesy vibe – the music is great, too. And friendly, fast service. Highly recommend. This place is worth a drive from Carbondale !
