Stopped by this relatively new spot in Baton Rouge. I tried the pulled pork and brisket with potato salad and mac ‘n cheese. The potato salad was best is the 2 sides. Pulled pork had a bit of spice that was nice. But the meat itself was dry. The brisket was moist and well charred but cooked a bit to well for my taste. Overall this was a good stop to try. The street it is located seems to be a trendy block in the making.

Best BBQ in BR and the cool part is it’s a block away from where I work. Like the guy below me said the brisket sandwich with fries is just outstanding. Don’t let that stop you though everything they have is just delicious.

Definitely not for me. Everything was spicy, including the mac and cheese. My chicken was red, but im not sure if that’s normal or not. The $2 bottled drink just pushed me closer to the “nope” side. Try at your own risk, maybe on payday as the price was okay.

This restaurant deserves the 1-star rating I give it as of 07/16/2018.

The Smokin’ Aces BBQ of old is no longer. It is disappointingly a completely different restaurant now that the owner has decided to combine his two ventures, Tiger Deauxnuts and Smokin’ Aces BBQ, into one confusing business “Tiger Deauxnuts & Barbecue” at the new location at 5162 Government Street.

When I entered the new Smokin’ Aces, I mean Tiger Deauxnuts & Barbecue, I knew that there was no way I was going to sit and eat Barbecue in a restaurant that smelled of sugar and dough. I would have much rather sat outside in the shade like at the old location, wafted with barbecue smoke. The menu seemed to be fairly similar, although some traditional barbecue options had been replaced with different varieties of sandwiches. Personally, I was disappointed that they no longer offered green beans, and chose to offer brussels sprouts instead.

I ordered ribs & brisket, with coleslaw and macaroni & cheese. The Mac & Cheese was actually pasta shells in what felt & tasted like cheese-flavored water. The coleslaw was not the traditional slaw I loved at the old Smokin’ Aces. It was now a vinegar based cabbage chop. The bread was no longer delicious buttered Texas toast, but a single slice of cheap white bread. The brisket was okay, not great, and the ribs – the most expensive meat on the menu – was dry and tough. Perhaps overcooked. Definitely not the amazing meal that I was used to from the old pit masters of Smokin’ Aces.

I used to think Smokin’ Aces was the best barbecue in town, but it appears that the owners, in an effort to cut expenses, made what may end up being one of the worst business decisions in Baton Rouge restaurant history. I’d advise to specifically avoid the barbecue portion of Tiger Deauxnuts and Barbecue.

Smokin Aces has become GD Barbeque. I visited GD Barbrque this past week. It is my first time. I suspect that that it is the same as Smokin Aces with a name change due to whatever reason. It’s as good as the old name and I wish them success in business. I had the pulled pork plate with baked beans and potato salad.
