I wanted to love the food so much more. The brisket was very dry and lacked any depth of flavor. The ribs were excellently cooked but I had to add flavor by using their BBQ sauce on top. The fried okra was great but the other sides were just okay. The customer service was good and they were very nice.

Great food and quickly made. You have to go to the counter and order and retrieve your own food. It’s clean inside. They do offer picnic tables in the back. They ribs and pulled pork are delicious. Kids under 5 eat for free which is awesome. Plenty of sauces to choose from to put on your food. It is in out of the way spot but well worth it.

If my review or pics helped you, then please give me a thumbs up

Service was great. Dining room was simple but has a certain “BBQ shack” romance about the place. Pulled pork and spare ribs were tender and well smoked. Coleslaw was crisp and creamy. My wife and I don’t really care for the undertones of vinegar in all of the food and sauce. But we’re from Ohio so…

The restaurant offers some of the best food in RTP at an exceptional value! If you live or work near RTP, you owe it to yourself to eat here. The meats are tender and flavorful, the sides are varied and each one is unique and well made. There’s nothing on the menu that isn’t top shelf and the prices are outrageously low. As a bonus, the decor will keep you entertained throughout your meal. Don’t miss Smokey’s BBQ Shack!

Small and cozy. Interesting place to eat in with the decor. Long line but fast and efficient service. If you don’t want to eat in you can enjoy the large backyard with picnic tables. The brisket was very moist, meaty and delicious. Ribs were ok. Sauce was vinegar base and great compliment with the meats. This was my first time so I would try other sides next time.

First, the positive. The service was quick and courteous. The signs up on the wall are hilarious.

Now, the not so positive. The food was bland. The pulled pork had almost no seasoning or flavoring apart from the bbq sauce on the side. The mac n cheese was just a step up from Kraft easy mac. The hush puppies seem like the ones you can get in the frozen food aisle to cook at home. The onion rings were decent. This is my honest review.

4.5 – While on a business trip to Raleigh, we wanted some genuine Carolina Barbecue, and this was the spot that was most often recommended.

After experiencing the brisket at Sparks and Smoke BBQ in Reno, I was hoping to get blown away here, and was not quite. The brisket was actually good, but a little on the dry side. The sauce, though…

They describe their sauce as a mix of Eastern and Western Carolina. Sweet and Spicy. It works. That sauce, combined with the tender and juicy Brisket from Sparks and Smoke, would have nations laying down arms and declaring peace.

Genuinely tasty.

For the rest of the meal: the beans were actually pretty amazing, and my co-worker stated that her sandwich (pulled chicken, pictured) was quite good. We had some hush puppies (deep fried corn bread pieces) that were pretty decent as well. Remember to be very hungry before you visit, or you’ll need some alka-seltzer. : )

Before you go, though, one more thing: try the banana pudding. Even if you’re already full. It’s served in a Styrofoam bowl. It isn’t fancy. It isn’t even pretty. It is simply fantastic. I mean…if I hadn’t been flying home the following day, this would have become a daily trip just for the banana pudding. The bbq would’ve been a bonus.

Not only did the kid smash his own hush puppies and fries along with everyone else’s but also the macaroni. Great mom and pop small family place we need to keep supporting. The food was amazing & the staff are THE sweetest.

This is a fun little hole-in-the-wall BBQ shack. I didn’t love the pulled pork or pulled chicken but I found the ribs to be some of the best in the Triangle. There is some cinnamon in the rub (and in some of the sides), which I really enjoyed. I was a fan of the tangy sauces too. The brisket was, of course, NC brisket. Go to TX if you want brisket! But, if you want ribs, this is a good place!

My family and I decided to stop by on our way back from the airport. Boy was it the best decision we had. I would drive out of my way to go here and I live in Fayetteville! Seriously beyond amazing, best bbq I have had. The outside looks a little small and rundown almost. However the parking lot was packed and that’s how you know it’s great. I got the brisket and it was delicious. I also got their coleslaw and beans, 19283821/10 that’s how great everything was. Don’t look for another place go here.
