The Des Moines location near Windsor Heights mis-made my drink, but the Carlisle location that I’m leaving this review for fixed it without any hesitation. They were so kind about it, even though it wasn’t their mistake, and they even offered to make me a completely different drink. I come to this location all the time, and this is exactly why. I honestly feel like not enough people know about this spot, they’re amazing!!

The food is great, but the customer service is terrible. Every time I am in there, it takes me flagging down someone before they even greet me. I was there for a pick up order today and there were three girls right in front of me making drinks and nobody even said hi to me for several minutes until I asked who I needed to talk to about a pick up order. Seems like it should be pretty simple to at least say hi and I’ll be with you in a minute.

i recently stopped by this smokey row location and, though my drink order was correct, the service was awful. i am aware that i went through at an early time(around 6:20am), however as i went through the drive-tru i was spoken to like i was a burden for coming through. the tone given at the speaker box was not friendly whatsoever and made me feel as though i should’ve gone elsewhere. when i pulled up to the window, the barista with purple-ish hair greeted me with the same deadpan tone as i was given at the speaker when id initially gotten there. i am insanely dissatisfied and disappointed in the service i was given and probably wont return.

I’ve had good coffee here before. But for the most part, every time we come, they over steam the milk and I can’t actually drink it. Then once it is cool enough, the coffee tastes burned. This is something that is an easy fix.

The staff and establishment are AMAZING! The inside of the building is an old school 1950’s vibe with eccentric wall memorabilia from different bygone eras. I went Halloween day and the staff were all dressed as The Minions. They invited a young man with special needs into a photo with all the staff as he LOVES the Minions. The staff asked if they could share the photo on social media and the family was more than happy to allow them to. The staff care for the community and it shows. Their menu includes perfectly portioned breakfast and lunch items that are cooked well and taste great. The coffee had a deep, complex flavor and don’t think just GET the cream cheese muffin (heated up) – it is amazing!

Not a good experience at all. Came in for dinner with my family. It wasn’t busy at all and the young staff never acknowledged any of us when we came in. I had to stand at the register for a while before they finally quit talking with each other and took my order. The staff clearly had a bunch of friends that came in who were not eating and they seemed more interested in them than the customers actually there to order/eat. I ordered a plain hamburger and I specifically said no cheese or anything else on it. Ended up getting a cheeseburger with everything on it. My kid got the mac-n-cheese meal. It was just hard uncooked noodles in lukewarm yellow water that was thrown onto the plate. Really…how hard is it to make that? I also ordered full order of the chicken pot pie. The hamburger came out 15 minutes before everything thing else and my grandfather was just about done before anyone else got their food. After we complained, they re-made some easy Mac for my kid. I thought my chicken pot pie was just taking a bit longer than the other food because it was a full order, so I patiently waited while everyone else was eating at my table. Nope. I ordered and paid for it, but they didn’t even make it! They finally offered to make the chicken pot pie but we told them to not even bother because the rest of my family had already finished eating by that point. We asked for a refund of the pot pie, which they gave to us. We should have just asked for a full refund because of the messed up burger order, crappy Mac-n-cheese, and lack of customer service. None of the staff really seemed to care about our experience and they just went back to talking to their friends who had come in there to hang out. So disappointing.

The absolute worst experience I have ever had at any local coffee shop. We’re from out of town so we stopped to get a pick me up. We have been to plenty of other Smokey Rows and have NEVER had this kind of experience. Firstly, wasn’t acknowledged ever. Not even in the 10 minutes of standing there, staring at the employees were we giving a “hello” “how are you this morning” “I’ll be with you in a couple minutes”. The one girl was slamming things around being obnoxiously angry. I asked the lady behind me if it’s always like this and she commented “I don’t even know why I come back to this place”. So unfriendly, unwelcoming and unprofessional. After 10-12 minutes of standing at the counter awkwardly we walked out. Probably won’t be back either.

The staff was fantastic and thorough tonight. One of the shift leaders came over to my table after the transaction and stated that they accidentally charged me for 2 drinks instead of 1. He then handed me a gift card with the refund on it and was apologetic. All 3 of the employees tonight were very professional, fast, kind and exceeded my expectations!! Did I mention how clean it was?! I used my gift card immediately before I left for more!!

Smokey Row is superior to any drive up or convenient store coffee. The atmosphere is fun and they have a lot going on, music, politics, comedy.
