What do two 1st generation Italian brothers, a rubber chicken, BBQ, & the world’s greatest spaghetti maker have in common? They are all milestones in the wonderful journey of Old Town Tap (aka Smokey Jo’s/Jim’s/Betty’s/Red Room…) In the early 1950’s, Jim & Sam Schrementi opened a bar and kitchen called Jim & Sam’s in the old Wood’s Hotel building which is now the site of a gas station at Route 1 & Exchange Street in Crete. Their friendliness, quick wit, and dedication to their patrons soon won the hearts of the mostly German town folk.

First Impressions, very nicely designed and decorated restaurant. The people are very friendly and we got served decently fast for how many people were here on a Friday. There is a lot of good food options here for anyone, especially barbecue. Sauces are a good 7.5 out of 10. Not the best, not the worst. Food here is high quality compared to what we have in Kankakee, much more options, flavor, and honesty just quality in general. Atmosphere is a 5/5, extremely decorated and fits the theme of the restaurant. Service is a 4/5, I would give a 5/5 but they did forget a few things like a drink and forgetting to take things off food. But aside from that, it was pretty good Food was 100% a 5 star! It honestly was a combination of all the places we eat at in Kankakee! Pickles tasted heavenly! 100% homemade and tasted blessed! My club sandwich I got was amazing and tasted similar to family houses triple decker sandwich. Waffle fries with tasted amazing and similar to chick fil a’s waffle fries. Overall, an easy 5 stars, amazing work smoky joes.

I ordered from door dash the corned beef hash with eggs and kids biscuits and gravy. The presentation was beautiful, large portions. The corned beef hash was cooked perfectly and tasted homemade, however I wasn’t a fan of the taste and texture of it. It just wasn’t my preference. The flavor wasn’t something I enjoyed and it wasn’t the texture of traditional corned beef hash. The eggs were fluffy and the hash browns were good. I appreciated that they allowed the hash browns to be customized to my preference. The biscuits appeared to be one giant biscuit cut in half. It was very tender and buttery. But after a few bites it started to taste a bit salty. The sausage gravy was very traditional, white gravy with few sausage crumbles throughout and tasted pretty good. Overall, the eggs and hash browns were good, so was the gravy, however I would not order the corned beef hash or biscuits again.

First time here, definitely not the last! First off, our server, Alexa was awesome! She was on top of things and very friendly. The food was hot and delicious! Hubby had the burnt ends and I can attest that they were YUMMY! I ordered the Cajun chicken salad. It was big and tasted really good. I appreciate the fact the manager came by to check on us twice to see if we needed anything, in addition to our server. The atmosphere was very chill. Good music and great vibe. Wish I knew about this place sooner!! A+

**second trip here, we sat at the bar, the bartender was a little cold, but still pleasant when dealing with people, the mushrooms were still out of this world delicious, my husband just did a bowl of chilly and i tried the daily special of a burger in a wrap. It wasnt bad, but probably something i wouldn’t order again. The drinks were good. Maybe we will give it another try one day*******
We have been past this place many times and finally decided to stop and check it out. The bartender was very help, and super sweet. Made us special drinks even though they were from the past holiday. Then our waitress came and took our order, I asked what the soup of the day was, she said she didn’t know but would go ask. She never came back to let us know. We ordered the stuff mushrooms and OMG they were out of this world delicious. We continued to wait for our waitress but she was standing around having fun with some of the other waitresses. So I went back to the bar to order another round of drinks. Our food was good. Drinks were great, bartender was wonderful, waitress not so much! The place looks like it provides some great entertainment. We will definitely come back to give it another try, but this time we will sit at the bar.

Went here to meet up with my cousin for dinner. We had chicken wings, baby back ribs, brisket, fries and a couple of sides. The ribs were great. The wings and fries were good but the sides were just ok and the brisket was dry. Barbecue in Chicago is super competitive. This place is no “Sanders” or “Green Street Meats” but its definitly better than most. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was very cool. Ill probably return one day when they’re having live music. Overall a good experience.
