I visited smokey bones in Manchester, CT probably 2 decades ago. My wife loves BBQ, and I remembed how amazing Smokey Bones was back then.
So I planed a Rhode Island trip and included one of the very few Smokey Bones still open (I now understand why)
I kept hoping something was good, so the dinner didn’t end in divorce.
Here is what we had and how it was:
Signature Ribs: Tender but lacked any real flavor. Guess that’s why they have a ton of sauces on the table, but real BBQ comes with flavor.
Fire roasted corn: HORRIBLE . Have you ever breathed the air in a basement flea market, that’s how it tastes.
Sweet Potato Fries: Good, could use some more salt out the fryer. Adding more salt after helped a little.
Shimp: really good, something you would get at a seafood restaurant.
Mac and cheese: really good, didn’t need the added cheese on top (which made it look microwaved, and probably was)
Turkey: I was super excited for this! We talked about the menu on the way there. And I got DELI MEAT?
Boneless wings: the same you would get at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Corn bread: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The server gave me corn instead of corn bread. I’m glad I spoke up.
Our sever Colton had a great personality.
The restaurant needs some Maintenance. Dirty vents, missing ceiling tiles or vents (holes in the ceiling). Bathroom floor was gross.
I’m guessing this a franchise location, and the owner operator doesn’t care, which is sad.
Update: waitress decided to talk about us to to her fellow employees IN FRONT IF US
Another update: needed my card for over 5 minutes to run my tab. Weird.
Received my correct box and left. Had been told that the garlic bread was under the burger. My mistake for not thoroughly investigating for every piece of my order. When I arrive home there was no garlic bread to my surprise. Called the restaurant and spoke to the manager whom had initially handed me the incorrect order. Requested a refund. He then proceed to try to talk to me about my complaint via the contact us, advised he could email me as directed in the form. He continued and I requested a refund and ended the call.
Also the food quality was terrible, burger was soggy and they even burned the bun! I will not be returning and monitoring for my refund.
Its a shame there are rumors of it closing
My partner ordered the 9 oz steak with mash potatoes and broccoli. I ordered the Bbq starter 2 with wings and pull pork including with Mac and cheese and beans.
Now here’s when it gets bad. When receiving the food, my partner notice how there was a piece of fries on my beans. Which was unusual but it didn’t peak my interest. Then as my partner was eating, he realized that his steak was cold, the broccoli was uncooked and cold, and mash potatoes slightly warm.
Then it gets WORST. As I ate further into my meal, I only came down to my wings and shared it with my partner (because his food was cold and he didn’t want it anymore). It turned out that the wings were RAW! STILL CHIRPING! We made a complaint to the manager and he was generous enough to take the meals off for us. We believe that the kitchen may need some more work done. But the server and manager was nice
