Screwed up events in order:
-no direction upon entering other than to just stand and wait for someone to notice us.
-originally seated at the far end of the restaurant away from everyone, with a draft and annoying flickering lights.
-our server finally came over, said a couple words about the section he had been given (no-man’s land where we had moved from) then disappeared.
-some time later another server came around and took our initial drink order.
-our server did not return for sometime prompting me to call out to yet another sever about ordering a drink, who explained how difficult it would be to take my drink order, that she didn’t know where our server was but then said she thought she could pass on the info as my drink order was an “easy one”. Our waiter came over to confirm and he was gone again.
-drinks were brought by the bartender; my order was wrong and my friends’ drink tasted (in her words) like toilet water
-when we ordered our meal we chose similar but different rib meals that came with 2 sides. My friend asked for a broccoli side and was told abruptly and without apology “we’re out”. He suggested salad & sweet potato fries, neither of which she wanted however “she had to choose 2 sides”
-our meal came and my friends ribs were as dry as the Sahara; mine were better but frankly I didn’t love the flavour. I will say the Mac & cheese side was yummy
-my friends’ salad came with the croutons she had asked to not be included
-check-ins from our server were mostly discussion (on his part) about what he was going to make himself to eat for his break… bc after 5yrs he “didn’t like the food there anymore!”
-when we asked for the bill he asked if we were together and we said yes; when he brought the bill and it only had my friends order on it
-when the correct bill arrived, we were charged for the same rib meal (the more expensive one!), my friend was charged for a separate salad (not included with the 2 sides) and extra for the “upgraded” sweet potato fries
My friend refused to dispute the mistakes made on our meal or the bill and since I was her guest I did not argue.
Needless to say this was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had, anywhere in the world.
1. We arrived just before 7pm on 12/6 for our anniversary dinner. We walked in, stood there for a good couple minutes before one of the to go ladies helped us. We were then seated, the place didn’t look too busy (was that a sign?) but it was mentioned that they were super busy earlierin the evening.
2a. We got seated, it was probably 15 minutes before we got a drink order. Following that, it was an additional 20 minutes before our food order was taken.
2b. Here’s where the manager comes in. She notices our server hadn’t taken our food order and came over because our waitress “was still trying to get over here to us” but offered no apology for the delay and when the check came, there was no discount to speak of.
3. When we finally got our food, while the temperature was warm, the food portion for the price was absolutely without a doubt the worst I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. I ordered the 3 favorites, being the pulled pork, bbq chicken breast, and smoked sausage with mashed potatoes and gravy and potato wedges for my sides.
The pulled pork? Super dry. The chicken breast? Pretty good. Smoked sausage? Looked like a brat with cheddar and jalapeño in it from Johnsonville warmed up. I didn’t even order it stuffed. The wedges? Dry and crunchy. Mashed potatoes? Pretty good. I can overlook the dry pulled pork. I can overlook cheddar cheese brat (I HATE cheddar). But I cannot overlook paying $30 for the plate in the picture. I unintentionally included the fork in the picture to scale the portion sizes. I ate the chicken breast in 2 bites as did the pulled pork.
In price comparison, I can go to my spot in East TN and get a sampler for the same price and brisket is an option.
Like I mentioned, we normally just speak to the manager about issues and its resolved usually with a replacement but with the time it took to get the food and the time we had been there already, we just wanted to eat and leave. And I left hungry. We arrived just before 7pm and left after 8:30.
Again, this is my first negative review and I’m not trying to crap on the place entirely but I was just wholly disappointed with our first ever visit to Smokey Bones. The most disappointing of it all, was it was our 17th wedding anniversary dinner.
My boyfriend and I are new to the area and decided to give this place a try on a Wednesday evening around 7:45–8:00. While I didn’t expect to be met with a warm hug, I also wasn’t expecting such an unwelcoming atmosphere. The host was cold and came across as uninterested, which set a poor tone right from the start.
We received our appetizer without issue, but the problem arose with our main meals. My boyfriend ordered the brisket platter and I ordered a hamburger. After finishing our appetizer, we waited over 30 minutes for our food. Normally, that might be understandable during a rush, but most of the other tables around us already had their food.
While waiting, we overheard a woman scolding someone in the kitchen because our table’s order wasn’t ready and so much time had passed. Shortly after, she came to our table and informed us they were out of brisket and that Chris had not been made aware (The ladymay have been the manager, but I have no clue because there was no introduction). I don’t blame our waiter at all; it’s concerning that the ticket wasn’t checked at any point during the long wait. Overall, the kitchen seemed disorganized and lacking communication or guidance.
We were compensated and received an apology from Chris, which we appreciated. However, as this was our first impression, we’ll likely be trying other places in the area moving forward
We came here tonight only because LongHorn had a 1.5-hour wait. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the restaurant was poorly managed. Several tables had not been cleaned, and the hostess was nowhere in sight to assist us.
After finally being seated in the back, we waited over 15 minutes without any service. My husband eventually had to speak to the bartender just to ask for water. At that point, we were told we had been seated in “no man’s land” and that no server had been assigned to our table.
The grand finale came later. After eating the pulled pork Sammy , my husband experienced what can only be described as a Dumb and Dumber-level digestive food poisoning emergency. If you’ve seen the movie… you know.
This review is NOT directed at our server, who was kind and apologetic once he realized what had happened. The issue lies with the overall management, mishandled food, and cleanliness of this establishment.
