Very happy to see the SmokeKing back up and running. A late July afternoon 2022, we sat outside and ordered a full rack of pork ribs, a two meat combo of brisket (hearing there were only two small portions left) and pulled pork with mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. They were out of wings or we would have tried some. Favorite dish: Pulled pork. Delectable. Ribs were well seasoned but my partner thought they were just a little pink at the bone but that may have been from the smoking. Both sides were a plus. The bar is not a full bar right now because of staff shortage, but there is wine and beer. We loved the spiked lemonade, too.

2021 – It’s great to see someone invested in replacing the former barbecue eatery, “The Firehouse Smoker,” with a new barbecue place named “SmokeKing Restaurant.” It’s a shame to see any small business go under, especially these days with government shutdowns, but the general consensus as to why “The Firehouse Smoker” closed, was because of its high prices not because of the good food.
Interestingly, barbecue at least in CT, is expensive. Omitting our take-out meal we added on to our bill, our tab came to thirty dollars per person. We did have three special menu drinks (2@9/1@10) which added $28. to the ticket, so if a patron doesn’t imbibe and only has water or a coke, the price will be more favorable. The drinks were well-made and mixed, but if on a budget order take-out as many people came in to do during our time there.
Our favorite menu item was the lamb spring roll appetizer. Not something a barbecue place usually offers, we were happy for this option as well as the chicken potstickers, though we prefer the spring rolls. Both are handmade on the premises.
The brisket burger, cooked to order, was good, but it’s really hard to find a bad hamburger these days. It’s always appreciated to be able to order meat how you want it, especially for rare lovers. The seasoned fries accompanying this dish were fair.
From the smoker, the half pound pulled pork was what it should be, tender, moist and lean, but lacking in seasoning and not hot in temperature.
Looking forward to a second try, especially with their baby back ribs and pulled lamb shoulder. Salads, pho & soup, and kids menu available.
Brisket was perfectly done!
Ribs were loaded with meat and well flavored with an excellent set of spices
Sides were fine. (Nothing special.)
Also, they accommodated our dog sweetly.
Whoever said the waitress’ shorts were too short = 1 star was uhm… jealous?
Everyone was very nice.
Service was acceptable. There is outdoor seating. ( Infront and in back by the river)
