If you’ve never been it’s a little hard to know that you grab your menu, sit down and then go up to order but once you’ve been once you get the flow! I honestly like this. It’s no pressure with knowing what you want by a certain time. We don’t have a very long wait, maybe 20-25 min. The food was so good, they even removed jalapeños from the mac and cheese for my daughter.
The pork belly tacos when you get bigger bites of meat are to die for! That would be my only ask is to be sure the meat is a full piece as they get charred which isn’t a bad thing when there’s enough meat there.
It’s very rustic and laid back. Good music. The owner even introduced himself to us which in a small town is always nice!
We look forward to more meals here.
If you’re expecting a full service restraunt you may be disappointed. You order at the front, get a #, they bring out the food. The employees are wonderful and kind, however other than bringing your meal, picking up dirty dishes, and refills on water or coffee when requested that’s the service. It’s not bad service. It’s just the kind of service it’s designed to give, so expect it when you go. I’d give them a 5 ⭐for personality and kindness, but it asked for a review on “service” and it’s not a place you come for for that.
So far I’ve liked 4 out of five dishes and I’ve gone three times.
Service was mediocre at best. They were busy, which may explain the lack of attentiveness, but the woman taking orders seemed visibly frustrated when I didn’t instinctively know to grab my own menu and seat myself. Not exactly the warmest welcome.
The menu reads amazing — lots of tempting options and creative descriptions — but sadly, the food didn’t live up to the hype. The half chicken was extremely dry, tasting more like it had been reheated from the day before than freshly smoked. The macaroni and cheese was probably the highlight, which, in my experience, seems to be the safest bet at a lot of smokehouse-style spots.
The kids did enjoy their chicken and waffles initially, but both ended up with upset stomachs later that night, which is concerning. As for the “guns” (the house potato chunks), they were so overcooked they were practically inedible — like biting into small rocks. A shame, because they might have been flavorful if cooked properly. Same goes with the Chilaquiles, burnt.
To top it off, several items we were interested in trying were unavailable — they were out of quite a few things on the menu.
I had really high hopes for this place, and I still believe the owner is trying to make something special here. Maybe it was just an off day. I’m willing to give it one more shot, but this visit was definitely a letdown.
Next time I’m in, I’ll be trying the burger—it looks phenomenal.
Being a smaller place, they only have a couple of waitresses who work very hard. If you need anything, it’s perfectly fine to go up to the front, which is expected at a small, local country restaurant.
Everything is hands-on and has a very homey feel. The people who run it are phenomenal.
As mentioned above, when you go in, understand that you’re in the middle of the country. Sometimes you do have to get up and talk to the hostess, because the hostess is also one of the servers. If you’re not okay with that, this probably isn’t the place for you.
Overall, everything about this place is great. I love it, the people are awesome, and taking everything into account, I’d give it an 8 out of 10.
